Re: freezer is cold but fridge is warm
Check door seals for freezer and fridge. If ok, check frost level in the freezer. Ice present on the back of the freezer panel (evap cover) remove evap cover and check for defrost problem by ohming out heater and defrost thermostat. If both check ok, then test the defrost timer. If this unit new and covered under wty, call a&e factory svc at 1-800-905-9505 for a free repair. consult your owners manual for wty details.
There is a fan in the back of frig that transfers cold from freezer to frig and it is more than likely bad. Pull out frig and take off back cover and see if it is running. Some frigs have them inside freezer too so it may be on the inside or outside.

If there is still ice in the freezer it will need to be completely defrosted for air to circulate through the coils. Make sure the fan is turning in the right direction. a generic fan motor may not be turning in the right direction and will need to be reversed by turning the armature around if this is possible with the replacement motor most universal motors are reversable and should show you how in the directions.
The evaporator fan motor will run only when the compressor is running. If the temperature is too warm in the refrigerator, there may be something blocking the opening from the freezer to the refrigerator.
If your fridge is old you maybe have a leak, crack, blockage in the fridge part...or at first step check your temp controls ...should be knobs in freezer as well as in bottom of fridge...sounds simple but overlooked at times. If fridge is a n older model especially if its located in a hot room it takes alot of freon and at times they are not equipped to get cold in extreme hot storage temps.
if you can; find the vent(s) between the top and, bottom boxes (where the evaporator fan is located: closing these vents makes the freezer colder and, the refrigerator warmer, opening these vents the reverse is true.
did you check to be sure the the compressor cooling fan is operational? if this is bad it will cause a problem similar to your condition. another thing if this checks ok is that your temp control could be getting weak, ( it has small springs connected to the contacts) and may need replacing. the fact that it will get to 0f tells me that compressor and freon system should be fine.
you mentioned the warm area on the side of your door is a anti moisture feature. if this area is abnormally hot it would indicate a bad condenser fan motor which is the compressor cooling fan.
If you have any further questions let me know thanks Peyton
More likely than not there is a blockage of ice bettween the freezer and the refridgerator. most fridges work to get the freezer cold as a priority. Then the cold freezer air is circulated throughout the rest of the unit to keep the fridge cold. Thats why you may hear a fan running in the fridge unit while the compressor is not on. Unplug and open the doors to warm the inside. Look at the plastic piece bettween the two units and remove. See if there is ice build up and use a hair dryer to melt, dry area out and restart the unit by plugging back in or turning temp dial. Hope this helps.
You should try to clean the coils under the fridge . Thats a simple thing to try .If your fridge /freezer cant remove the heat it wont cool ,also please make sure your doors are closing tight. We can start on all the free things you can try first..
