Check your drain hose for siphoning. this is a common problem, make sure only about 8 inches is sticking into the drain, and the drain line is higher then the mid point of the washer, ex: drain hose must not leave the washer and head directly to the floor, must make a loop upwards, then enter a drain appx. 3+ft high. Drain hose from washer not to enter drain plumbing more then 8".

Washing Machine Detergent

There are many questions about the type and the amount of washing machine detergent that is needed. Whether you are using a top loading washing machine or a front loading washing machine it does make a difference as to what and how much detergent to use.

Generally speaking a front loader washing machine will need to have less detergent then a top loader washing machine. Combine this with the water savings of the front load washing machine and you will get a substantial savings. However the front loading washer may be much more sensitive to many detergents. The recommendation of many manufacturers is to use HE detergent. This is designed to give less suds then many other detergents.

This is true but the use if the special detergent is not necessary. With the front loading washer you can decrease the amount of detergent used and still get great results. With warmer water you also can get better cleaning from less detergent. If you want you can also mix your fabric softener with the detergent and the fabric softener will keep the suds down for you.

If you have a top loading washer then you may want to experiment with using less detergent then you have thought would work in the past. By using warm of hot water you also can reduce the amount of detergent used and get great results.

Today’s high efficiency washers are very effective clothes washing machines. You can wash clothes with far less detergent in these efficient cleaning machines. Remember that the new machines are very sensitive to excessive suds and will even stop to allow the suds to go down before continuing on. More is not always better and with the washing machine of today, more may make it take a very long time to wash that load of clothing.

Ytek.netwe just moved into a house with a duet washing machine- a few years old. when we do a normal clean cycle, it doesnt appear there is that much water getting used. How much water should we see thru...

All front loaders use very little water as a opposed to a top loader that uses up to 45 gallons per load a front loader uses about 10,plus a front loader cleans clothes very well with that minimal water usage.
The major question is do the clothes seem to come out clean when you have used that washer?

Should suds be visible in top load washers during the wash cycle?

Not if your using the correct amount of HE detergent You have to start with the understanding that the tumble action of high-efficiency washers (i.e., front loaders) produce more suds than the agitator action in top loaders. Now most of people think, "Oooo, sudsy, that's good!" No, not good. Suds do nothing to clean your clothes and are actually an undesirable by-product of the detergent's chemical interaction with the water. The main job of detergents is to remove soils and stains. They do this by breaking down the surface tension of water, in effect, making water "wetter." The water is what actually does the cleaning by slipping in between the ca-ca and the fabric, separating them and suspending the ca-ca in solution.
Detergents are designed to freshen, remove odors, and brighten fabrics as they clean. Another key detergent function is to hold ca-ca, and any dyes from colored fabrics, suspended in the wash water so they aren't re-deposited back onto the cleaned clothes. Traditional detergents are designed to do this in high water volumes used by conventional, top-loading water hog washers.
If you think about it, using HE detergent in your front loader is really common sense. Because of the low-water wash and rinse cycles in HE washers, HE detergents must work differently from traditional laundry detergents in order to be effective.
Excess suds can cause the washer's pump to overheat causing premature failure of the pump. These excess suds also cause residue to build up inside the drum and hoses. After a while, your washer will start giving off a moldy funk and infecting your clothes with its faint, musky stink. Hope this Helps Good Luck

Can you use regular detergent with front loader washers??

All manufactures suggest using a high efficiecy detergent. They are specially formulated to keep the suds level low and work well with the low water levels of a front loader. Boxes are marked with an HE on them letting you know they are for high effiency machines. Regular detergents were designed for washers that use many gallons of water.

Suds indication

Hi!

For a top loader, a general rule of thumb is to lay clothes loosely inside the washer until they reach the top of the agitator. For a front loader, fill it until it's full, with minimal compression of the clothes.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Usage of HE detergents

The best he soap I have seen yet is all, he is high effieciency low suds soap. The rule of thumb for liquid he soap is 2 Tbl for every 1 Tbl of softener. Powder can be used but is not good on pumps and build up in tubs. If you have a water softener you can use 25% less soap. Still with powder you need about a 1/4 cup per load to equal a 2 Tbl liquid variety. Suds damage pump impellers, seals and hoses from expansion and that is it on the reason "why to use he".
