Question about IBM Computers & Internet

3 Answers

Computer says IBM wireless adapters (802.11 or Bluetooth) not installed on this system I just bought an IBM ThinkPad computer second hand and am trying to connect it to my existing home network system of wireless broadband and it will not because it says that the wireless adapters are not installed on the system. Are the wireless adapters hardware or software? I do not have the system disks. I am wondering if I download the system software from Lenveo and reinstall if this will solve the problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

In order to access a wireless signal, you need to have a wireless card. You can either have one that plugs into the side of your laptop (I'm guessing you don't have this) or have one installed on the mother board. @ ways to check the motherboard, you can open it and look (usually a panel on the bottom of the laptop in the center, 2 screwss) or go to the hardware manager and see if its there. right click my computer=> properties=> hardware=> device manager=> then click on the plus sign next to network adapter and see if you have a WLAN adapter installed or any yellow question marks. If it is there then we can focus on the drivers. If it is not there, then you need to purchase one first.
The card located on the motherboard is usually about 1" x2" or so and has 2 small wires attatched to it
let me know what you find out

With regard to your issue, you may want to find a way to connect online and run an update for your system.

this will install all the drivers you need for all the computer components to run.

regards.

Please make sure the drivers for your wireless network adapter is installed.
1) go to Device manager - rightl click on my computer and click on properties, select HARDWARE tab then click on Device manager
2) See if the wireless adapter is displayed under Network adapters. If there is an yellow exclamation mark on the Network adapter, it means the drivers for your adapter are not installed.
3) If you find the drivers ok, then make sure that the wireless radio button is turned on. Usually the wireless radio can enabled or disabled from a tray Icon on right side of the system. Most of the system also come with a on/off switch for the wireless radio which is basically on the front side of the laptop.

If the above does not help please revert with the model number of your system and I will try some other steps for you

My ibm thinkpad t40 can't connect to a belkin g router

Hi,
I'm assuming that its a wireless problem.
This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Good luck

Computer says IBM wireless adapters (802.11 or bluetooth) not ins

Hello Kangarootrib,
Since you bought the ThinkPad second hand and the software installation disc did not come with it, you should go to the IBM ThinkPad manufacturer's web site. Once there, look for your specific model and search for the proper drivers and download and install them on your current computer. Drivers are basically small bits of code that tell the operating system how to communicate with hardware devices, which when you purchase products new come with a CD that contains these instructions for your computer to be able to communicate with the device. Hope this helps and please let us know if you need further assistance.

P.S. If you would not mind, could you please rate my help as I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Ibm thinkpad t42 switch for wireless network

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.

To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.

To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.
