Reply I found a plugged jet I think its called a pilot jet. Thats what they are called on a snowmobile. it was starving for fuel at high RPM on one carb the other 2 were working fine so it couldn't produce full horse power.  I will put it back together on Wednesday and let you know if it works.

Reving in neutral does not mean the same thing as under load. If you need to pull 4500rpm under load and for an instant the load was gone, you would probably overrev to 6500. With the cover off and motor not running move the throttle to full forward. Look at your carbs and see if the throttle plates are wide open. If they are not all wide open take it back to the dealer. The throttle adjustment is off. You need the full range of travel from idle to topend.

I see. Then the problem is not with getting enough air or throttle position. This means nothing in the linkage is blocked and you are getting all the travel you need right to the end. If you have a second tank have you tried them both? I am thinking you are left with two possibilities. The fuel area-clogged screens, weak pump, or lines sucking air. Or the spark area, spark advance is not advancing. When you move the throttles an electric part like a stator should move with the linkage and advance the spark. You would need someone to check the timing.

I would be interested to know if you fixed your problem. If you found debris it had to come from somewhere. It would still be good to inspect all the fuel screens.

Have 115 Hp mercury outboard motor missing at full throttle and on idle. At mid throttle it is running fine. Any Idea what the problem could be. Thanks, Milton

Have your spark plugs changed AND carbs cleaned and adjusted.
Usually that can also be caused by a seized advance system ( plate under the flywheel, commanded to turn with the throttle linkage... )

Stumbling on acceleration

You may be cruising down the wrong road with the exhaust idea but then you might be right. An exhaust restriction should also cause the engine to run hot. A faulty cat should also set some codes.
If the injectors are dirty, you may have a very lean fuel mix on one or more cylinders under acceleration, which would go away once you are not under load. And injector problems won't set any codes unless an injector stops working completely. Low fuel pressure could cause the same type of issue.

I have a 2004 60 hp yamaha 2 stroke outboard engine that doesn't start or run well. Once warm and in the water it will idle in nuetral and also in gear. It accelerates in neutral but will die or lack power...

Every sympton you are describing here can be attributed to fuel starvation due to blocked jets and or water in carbs, when your engine dies does it die with dry plugs, or wet oily ones?
