Question about Safe T Alert Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rv Trailer

1 Answer

I have a Class C motorhome. The unit is in storage and when I arrive to check on the motorhome, the alarm is going at low alarm or needs replacing noise. I had the unit checked as well as the motorhome. Everything is ok as a individual unit. I have to disconnect the unit in order to avoid running down the coach battery. What is the cause of the alarm. All the propane and unit is not running. We use the motorhome about once a month. Does the heat inside the unit have anything to do with it. I live in Phoenix Arizona. Thanks Chuck

Hi chuck. the source of the carbon monoxide is outside of your unit. for example other engines running near by sending fumes into your unit and setting off your alarm

Check for vacuum leaks first, could be old gas or clogged carburetor or fuel injectors, are all the plugs and wires good and clean ends, also look at the distributor cap and rotor, i would use a lil supreme gas in it to blow the bugs out too with a lil gas treatment in it

When starting alarm sounds and a dash light flashes tow

is the alarm an aftermarket alarm or an original Mercedes alarm ?
If its an aftermarket one it could be the self-powered battery cutting in because the battery voltage is getting too low and the siren thinks its being tampered with !
Check the condition of your car battery with a heavy duty discharge tester to see how low your battery voltage is going as you crank the starter motor , you possibly may need a new battery

Jayco gas alarm going off when trying to use battery only

Check voltage of battery. Low battery will cause it to work erratically. Check voltage at connections of alarm. When your plugged in, converter will keep battery up to charge if working properly, but without being plugged in, battery voltage drops and alarm is basically trying to tell you it can't work properly unless it has proper voltage.

I cannot find the Horn under the bonnett of my Fiat Ducato Motorhome Can you Help Please

It is usually infront of the radiator -between it and the front of the vehicle -usually low down.
If it still works - sound it!

Check the wiring loom and look for a single wire going into that area to trace it.

Same alarm problem setting offf

As a camper myself, I know that one of the last thing we check is our Carbon Monoxide detectors in our unit. I had an old Class C motorhome with a CO detector that failed to alert me, and my kids got to the point of being nauseous. We were lucky to discover the problem.

A Carbon Monoxide Detector needs to be changed after 5 years because the sensor is designed only to last this long. If your unit needs to be changed, you can shop online on my website http://carbonmonoxidedetectoralarms.com/

Good luck and happy trails.

Check your vehicles safeties. Your ECM is probably programed for engine shutdown if it senses low oil pressure or low coolant level. Do a preliminary check.

Cannot set up the arrival alarm to a point

If you set your arrival alarm to .001 you are trying to hit a very small circle, only 6' in diameter and the odds of actually reaching that point are incredibly low so it's not likely the alarm will go off. Try setting your arrival alarm to .100 just to see if the arrival alarm works better.

When you set alarm to 15 second arrival you should see and hear an alarm, however, the slower you are going, the smaller the arrival circle gets, which means its gets harder to hit the area that triggers the alarm. 15 seconds is the default setting and I have found that it works fine at normal cruising speeds. If you are traveling very slowly, try bumping the arrival time up in 30 second increments to see if you can get an alarm.

When the alarm does go off, it is a very faint double beep which is hard to hear over the sound of wind and engines. I don't remember exactly how the visual arrival message appears but it is also very subtle. It appears either as a change to the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, or as a message box on the screen that dissappears very quickly. When I use that model I frequently miss the arrival alerts.
