My PS2 will play only some DVD movies fine. It does the same with PS2 games. Seems like they have removed something that the older, larger PS2s had that allowed them to read DVDs more deeply and play...

Hi there Mike,

The only possible reason for your problem, since your slimline ps2 is STILL reading them (but just a little slow sometimes), is because the lens could hardly read your discs due to dust build up. Try cleaning it using a disc cleaner and letting it spin for like 30 seconds. If this does not fix the issue, then you may have to MANUALLY clean the lens. Open the cover and once you see the lens, get a clean swab or qtip and damp it in an alcohol and gently wipe the lens in a circular manner. Then let it dry and try to play those discs again.

Please let me know how this goes. Thank you for using FixYa.

Circular scratch on my disc

this cause of strip wire connected to the lens,

1.u can change the wire( or)
2.hold or bend the wire in opposite direction so that it doesn't peek up, more curve it will touch the dvd u play and scratch

The playstation got really sensitive with reading disks

Sounds like you need to clean the lens on your PS2. The best solution is to find a DVD player lens cleaner from a local electronics store (make sure it is a good quality one, don't buy the cheapest one) and put it into your PS2 disc tray. It will play the disc using the DVD player on the PS2. Make sure you follow the directions for the lens cleaner very carefully, as you don't want to accidentally scratch your lens.

That should help with the reading issues. Good luck!

Ps2 slim problem... urgent pls

I really doubt its the lens because normally when that fails the PS would put up a warning say so.

You could try playing the PS on another TV seeing if its the PS or the TV

My playstation 2 makes a weird clicky sound when I try to play some of my dvds or games and sometimes it comes up with disk error or unable to read disk and its a brand new disk

Your PS2 lens is displaced from its original position that is what scratching your Discs and makes weird noises too.There can possibly be another reason for them ,your PS2's reading lens is dirty and it is covered by a layer of dust that scratches your Discs and makes sounds too.
You should first clean the lens of your PS2 watch this video to know how to clean your PS2's lens:

Disk read errors are mainly due to dirty or worn out lens,so clean your PS2's lens to get rid of this problem and as for that sound that will get fixed by cleaning lens if still it makes that sound then you will have to take your PS2 to repairer to set the lens height.
Thank you!

Our ps2 is very slow loading and sometimes it won't load at all. Other times is loads just fine.

It could be that the lens inside the playstation is dirty from dust. Try using a Cd cleaning disc that you can buy down at your local electronic store. If its not the lens then it could be the disc your playing. Check to make sure it doesnt contain dust or marks. If the disc contains scratches it could make it hard for the len to read the disc correctly.

My ps2 screen says 'insert a playstation or a ps2 format disc

t's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

Playstation 2

First you should try cleaning your lens with a disk cleaner you can buy just about anywhere ... check you games scratches finger prints, ect,, hold the game up yo the light if you can see daylight use a sharpie pen to cover it picture side only. if that does not work.. then your games are too messed up or you have had it a long time and it needs a good cleaning .. also a can of compressed air works for a good blowing out.if all else fails you may need to replace your lens ..if that has to happen i can send you a video on how to do that. hope this helps
