On my singer 2263 I am having a problem with the bobbin on top. It keeps locking up. What would cause this? how do I fix it?

I thread the thread to the bobbin and when I move the slide over and press the foot pedal..it just tries to turn then stops. But the needle that is not supposed to move ..moves. Then it stops. What do I do?

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind Singer 7422

Your problem lies with the main shaft that is to tight to release the bobbin winder mechanism, because of old grease and oil becoming sticky. A short term solution will be to remove the needle, in order not to hurt you, and then hold on to the needle bar with your left hand, while engaging the bobbin lever with your left hand. This will prevent the main shaft to rotate and your winder should work. In the long term, take it to your dealer to clean the oil and grease. You will not be able to open the machine casing yourselve, as you might damage the casing and or electronics.

Good luck!

Check to see if you have your bobbin winder on. That's usually the problem. Just push it to the left and you should be ok.

I have a Singer 2263 which is old but not used often. I am making aprons for Christmas, I made 3 and all the sudden the bobbin started bunching together. What can I do?

hi Sue.
Why does my bobbin thread keep bunching up? Check Your Tension Settings. Looping underneath the fabric usually occurs when there is not enough tension in the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. Sometimes thread bunching can be caused by something as simple as the tension dial being inadvertently turned.

Bobbin tread bunches and jams machine

If the bobbin is inserted with the thread spinning the wrong direction this will cause "birdnesting" - thread build up under needle plate, you need to cut thread to get the item off machine. flip the bobbin over into the case and try again. Also make sure you remove ALL thread caught up in "Birdsnest" when they happen.

Singer 2263 needle hitting something in bobbin area (loud thunk) and needle moves

try taking the bobbin out and putting it back in the bobbin
case if it's a top loading bobbin
if it's a side or front loading bobbin make sure the bobbin case is
inserted correctly
if the bobbin and bobbin case are inserted correctly then
it sounds like the sewing machine could have a timing
problem and needs to be checked at a sewing machine shop

Singer 2263 instruction manual does not show where to lubricate or how to adjust the hook which keep jamming

First make sure that the needle is fully up. Then you need to open the hinged front cover and unscrew the needle plate screws. Remove the bobbin. Brush out any lint now. Remove the bobbin case. Then snap the hook retaining arms outwards. Remove the hook cover and hook. Put no more than 2 drops of sewing machine oil on the the case (center right hand side). Then turn the hand wheel until the hook race is in the left position. Replace the hook and then the hook cover. Snap the hook retaining arms back into position. Replace the bobbin case and bobbin. Then replace the stitch plate.

Test the machine on a piece of waste fabric. If the hook keeps jamming, take the machine in for maintenance. The parts that may need to be replaced are the race or the shuttle hook. However without seeing the unit I do not know if there is not another problem. Some parts for the 2263 are available here: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-2263-sewing-machine-parts.aspx .

Singer has a second manual available with the oiling instructions for the 2263 here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1213_oiling-2263.pdf . See the diagrams on this page for where things line up. The rest of the instruction manual is also online here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1180_2263%28eng_spa_fre%29.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Thread jams up under fabric. could the machine be out of time

No, Check the theading of the bobbin and the bobbin thread tension. The thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

How do i put threed into the bobbin and keep it from not getting tangled?

Is it getting tangled while you're spooling the bobbin on the top right corner of the Singer 1507 machine? If this is the case, you have to pull the thread through the top tiny hole in the bobbin, and hold on to the thread end. Then click the bobbin to the right to lock it in place, power up your machine. Keep holding the thread as you begin spooling the bobbin. Let go of the thread once the bobbin starts to spin a few rounds and the thread should not get tangled.

Have you pulled up on your top thread as it loops the bobbin thread? You are supposed to hold on to your top thread with your left hand and then lower your needle with the handwheel, you have to turn the wheel towards you not away from you or else you can mess up the timing. You will see it catch the thread and you will know to pull it up.

Thread bunces up on the bottom causing machine to

I would start by looking for a problem with the bobbin tension. Do you have the bobbin threaded through the case correctly? Is the the bobbin tension set to loose? Another thing that can cause it to spool up on the bottom is if it sews a bunch of stitches all in the same spot or real close, do you have the presser foot tension to loose?
