Question about Computers & Internet

No bootable device

My Acer Aspire One computer keeps telling me that I have no bootable disk---insert disk. Well I don't have a compartment on my computer for any said disk. So I called Acer tech people and he told me that they could send me the disk for $20. But I would need to go and spend more money and buy an external drive so that I could load the disk. Well, I asked if there was any other way to fix my problem. And he said that it was an easy thing to fix and I could pay $60 for a half hour session with one of the tech people and they could tell me how to go through my computer and fix it. Well, i don't want to pay to fix a problem I shouldn't have to pay for if it's so easy to fix. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem without having to spend anymore money on this computer?

On startup press f2 and go to the boot section menu and select your harddrive as first boot device to stop the anoying message. When the laptop next boots it will load from the hdd and not search for a boot disc.

Aspire one keep saying no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key and I don't have a disk slot

You hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

It keeps tellin me no bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key... i also dont have a disk drive all i have is a ubs flash drive spot

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Help!! I have an Acer Aspire Laptop. It wont boot up!!

Hello, "Suzy Irwin".
You wrote that this is the error message:
"Check cable connection! PXE-MOF : Exiting Intel PXE ROM No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key".
Is that correct?
IF so, 1st, Good Job!
Most people miss the mess., then we don't have the info we need.
OK, "PXE ROM" indicates that the POST can't find the hard drive.
"No bootable device" usually indicates the connection to the hard drive, or the drive itself, has failed.
When it says; "Check cable connection",
that's another indication of the same problem.
So, do you feel comfortable taking your "Acer Aspire" apart?
IF its in warranty, or if you don't think you can take it apart,
AND put it back together again,
then you will need to take it to a shop or store that does repairs,
or buy another computer.
But IF you feel up to it, check the company's website,
and google the instructions for disassembly/reassembly for your particular model.
Your description of the problem didn't include the model info, or any additional info to further ID your particular Aspire.
They are NOT all alike.
Hopefully helpful,
sl0j0n.

Open the hard drive bay and ensure it is plugged in correctly. If that isn't the problem, try testing the hard drive. If it's ok, then the motherboard is gone.

Try this :

What is WinToFlash

There may come a day that optical drives are as hard to find as 5.25 floppy drives are today.

WinToFlash starts a wizard that will help pull over the contents of a windows installation CD or DVD and prep the USB drive to become a bootable replacement for the optical drive. It can also do this with your LiveCD.

You don't have to worry about scratches on the disc or misplacing your original media discs once you transfer their contents to the flash drive. The optical drive is quickly becoming a thing of the past, especially in office environments, as media is shifted to the cloud.

Take note: you have to select usb flash disk in your boot priority, how? just enter your bios then search for boot priorities.
