Question about Compaq Presario M2000 Notebook
I use a currency exchange website, which is very data intensive. Wen there is a signficant data exchange (several currency pairs on screen, or the charting screen for a currency pair, or all the currency pairs are reporting changes at the same time) the computer will lock up and stop displaying.
Internet Explorer will exhibit an error message that says: "Program not responding" (up in the screen title box)
IF I wait it out and let all the data stream come in, the software will again respond. If I wait the 5 to 10 minutes for it to do that, I could lose enough money to buy the computer company!
What I'm going to do is put the full gig of RAM that the Compaq M2000 will accomodate, 1gig, and I'm considering increasing the amount of storage the bios frame buffer has access to.
I have 512 RAM now, and the next time I lock up, or re-boot I'll go into the bios and increase the texturing option.
The questions I have follow:
1) what can I do, if anything, to force the computer to accept run, and use more tan 1 gig of ram?
2) Are there any other setting that will allow my computer to run faster that changing the amounts of memory in the computer?
3) Any suggestion I missed. 8}
A few things could help.
Disable anything but your antivirus software from loading when the computer starts.
Click Start, run, and type "msconfig"
Click the startup tab and turn these things off, they eat up your memory and make the computer take longer to boot.
Also, what is the exact model number of the laptop so I can look up your RAM situation (more ram is always better but you can get diminishing returns by maxing it out.) You can find this by flipping over your laptop, it will be printed on the same sticker that has the serial number and the product number.
