John Deere LA110 mower blades got disengaged

My John Deere LA110 mower blades got disengaged when I mistakenly ran over a plastic bag. I got the bag off and the blades are clear. The belt is fine, but the blades will not re-engage. Is there a safety or something I am missing?

Does it engage manually with a lever, or is it electronic with a push pull switch? if electronic, check the wire that goes to the electric clutch, it might have come off when unplugging it. do all this with the engine off

When I engage the blades, I smell and see blue smoke, so disengaged the blade

Its not the drive belt. You have a bearing or etc. out.
I just have problem. The spindle bearing was bad.

LA110, 42" mower deck, 1

Check that the cutting tip of the blade that is cutting lower is not bent down. Also park the mower on a level surface and lower the deck and check the gap under the front of the deck is even. If not, there are levelling adjustments on the top of one side of the deck. Regards Phil

Belt comes off my John Deere L A 110 42 inch cut when blades are disengaged!

3 things:
1. disengage the blades and allow them to come to a complete stop before reducing the engine RPM
OR
2. adjust the belt tension by loosening the bolt where the cable to engage the blades is attached to the maximum.
OR
3. replace the belt.
