Re: Restoring Partition

If you did the install by formatting C drive, it was a clean install and all other data from Win 98 will be gone. Also XP uses NTFS rather than only FAT. It becomes a real mess when you try to install XP over 98 without starting on a clean slate.

How To Recover My Data.?

Dear Rabeesh,

I'm guessing that you've formatted hard drive partitions containing Windows 7. If so, the drive will eventually become RAW as it contains the system files and the OS.
You need to run the professional partition recovery software (, capable to recover RAW partitions from your hard drive. Follow the link mentioned above and try the software. It comes in demo version, so you can try it for free and once assured, you can go for premium version to recover all your data.

I am missing a partion in my external drive what can I do to recover?

If you have not written anything else to the drive you can find software that can recover partitions. I use Acronis Disk Director a commercial program. However there are many free solutions on the internet.See: for a rundown of partition software and a primer on what a partition is.

Wd drive PATA wdc-wd2000 jb - 00fua0 should be a 200 gb drive. said was running out of space and when checked found drive was only reporting it's size as 31.49gb. have tried everything I can think of to...

Check the hard drive for partitions, it could have several partitions, but only the first partition has been formatted.
Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - click on Disk Management and look at the Western Digital it could be Disk 1.
If you see unallocated partition, you can create and format this partition.
You can delete the existing partition and create a single large partition and then format this partition.
NOTE - this process will delete the existing data on the hard drive.

I have a partioned Drive Of C: If i format C: will that delete all partions on the Drive C: and if so how can i prevent all the partions from being deleted.

No that will not delete the partition, I am assuming you are blowing away your system partition. Your other partitions will not be affected as long as you don't delete them in your OS setup.

It was fine then all of a sudden...

the drive has lost its partitions
use a partition recovery soft ware and ptdd is the best in windows. or use acronis partition recovery software.
it will ask for restoring , once it sees the partitions
and ask for restart when it has found the partitions . so restart your machine and do this through another windows loaded system . the data will be automatically found in file and folders.if you cant let me know

if you need more help pm me.

Rules for runing partitiom magic

Thanks for the respone

I have been informed by the VISTAHEAD admin. that vista can not be partitioned by more than 4 parts.
I used the shrink function available in the Vista computer manger , rename the DVD drive label, and labeling the new partitions, then format them as NTFS, then reboot twise for taking the configuration setup and every thing is o.K. without the need for the partition magic.
Now i have only 4 patitions. But didn't know why is this limit?
Beside that i read that the partition magic v8.0 cannt partiton the vista O.S main drive.

SATA Drive

How large is the drive? Windows XP pre SP2 will not recognize a drive larger than 120G when loading from the cd. You will need to use something like Partition Magic to partition and format the drive into 100G partitions, install the OS (it may not see more than the first partition) and upgrade to SP2 and it will see the entire drive.
