Dryer will start when door is closed

The dryer door switch is there to stop the dryer when the door is opened, so if the dryer starts when the door is closed, the switch on the door is functioning properly.

The problem will probably be with the timer. There are breaker points that will be fused in the contact position. The simplest long term solution will be to replace the timer. Sometimes you can take the switch apart, find the fused contacts, and clean them up, but it's a temporary fix. Also, DON'T TRY TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU UNPLUG THE DRYER POWER!

The dryer is not heating up and the dial stops at the cool down so the dryer will not shut off by it self. Its a kenmore 70 series dryer.

you need to send the model number, open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer and you'll see the tag with the model number.it will start with 110. or 417.because you have no heat that's why the timer won't advance, when the heat shuts down then the timer advances when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving or advancing,no heat the timer won't move.send the model number

The top of the dryer gets hot when temp control is not set on off

One of your heating elements has broken and welded itself to the heater housing. When the timer is activated L-2 powers the remnant through the timer to the neutral. You need to unplug the dryer and fix the heater element. 9b8cf19.jpgbc36f64.jpg97143cb.jpg

The easiest way to check the door switch if you do not have a meter is to connect the wires coming to it together. Then try it. If it work the switch is bad. All you will be doing is bypassing it so you can test. If you do have a meter, the switch is a normally open switch. When the button is pushed in, it closes making a circuit. While you have the back off. Go to http://www.partselect.com/ModelFrames.aspx?ModelID=323612&ModelNum=DBSR463EG2WW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=2&Selected=00125777i04&Position=2&mfg=GE&Type=&Mark=2 and look at #507. This is most likely the problem. If it is, if your not able to check these you will want to replce #505 and #506. When #506 goes bad the dryer cycles on #505. When #505 goes bad the it cycles on #507. When #507 goes out the dryer stops all together. #507 can also be put out by the vent being clogged. Good luck.

Dryer won't start when you turn the timer on

Check the house fuse or circuit breaker to make sure power is on. Check to see if the door switch is working. Use a small screw driver or stick to move the switch lever with the door open.

Look inside door and get me the model number. This could be many different things that can cause this. Bad door switch, high-limit, timer, start button and a lot more, so let me know what happens, check power to dryer and see if timer even runs. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Change your timer. It has a malfunction in it. it's about a 100 dollar fix. Also your start switch may be bad.

Ge dryer #DBXR463ED2WW does not start and power is going to dryer

You said, GE dryer #DBXR463ED2WW does not start and power is going to dryer

Here are the 5 most common reasons for your Electric dryer not to start.

Door Switch
The door switch must be operative before the dryer will start. Ensure the door switch strike is properly actuating the switch and if so, check the door switch for continuity with an ohmmeter for proper operation.

Faulty Drive Motor
If the motor will not start, it is possible it is defective. The wiring of the motor is different for each brand and you will need to refer to the wiring diagram of your dryer for the specific terminal locations. You will need to use a volt/ohm meter to check for resistance between the run winding and common (may be referred to a neutral). If there is no resistance, the motor is open and will need to be replaced.

The motor bearings can also go bad. A dryer with a motor in this condition can sometimes be started by hand and it will run. However when the motor gets hot the bearings begin to seize and the motor will stop. In this condition you must also replace the motor.

Electric Dryers:
On Electric dryers you will need to check the heat element for resistance. With the power disconnected, remove the two wires connecting to the heat element and check the resistance of the heat element by using a volt/ohm meter. The resistance should be between 5 and 50 ohms of resistance. If there is no reading the element is defective and will need to be replaced.

Heating Source
If the element is not receiving power it is likely that one of the thermostats is defective.

Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse is in series with one leg of power to the motor. If the fuse is open (no continuity) the motor will not run.

Location:
The thermal fuse is located in different locations according to the model and brand of dryer.

Solution:
Check the thermal fuse for continuity with a volt/ohm meter. If it is open, it will need to be replaced.

Timer
The timer is the source for power to the motor and if the timer contacts are defective, there will be no power getting to the motor. Since the wiring is different between brands and models, you will need to refer to your wiring diagram for terminal locations. Once you have located the correct terminal for the motor operation, you will need to turn on the dryer and check for 110v from the timer terminal for motor operation and the chassis ground. If you have the voltage, the timer is most likely okay and the problem is elsewhere. If there is no voltage, the timer is defective and must be replaced.
