What specific model of Gateway ???

  • NinaE Jun 25, 2009

There are 21 steps. Here's what I found:

    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106...

Key in "replacing the keyboard" and the documentation should take you step-by-step. Good luck.

  • NinaE Jun 25, 2009

There are actually 21 steps to remove and 14 steps to replace.

  • NinaE Jun 27, 2009

    Did it work ??

  • NinaE Jun 28, 2009

So, you reconnected the old keyboard ?? Power on OK ? Power lights on laptop ??

  • NinaE Jun 29, 2009

I was referring to the lights on the front of the laptop (hard drive, etc.). Was the display OK before you replaced the keyboard ??

  • NinaE Jul 02, 2009

Was this helpful ??? Resolve your problem ?? Thanks.

Check eBay. I've been working on computers for years and order ALL of my replacement keyboards through eBay. I just found 9 of them after entering your model number; about $16 with free shipping. Sarawill82 hit the nail on the head for the replacement; you tube is your friend if you're doing it yourself. If it doesn't have your exact laptop, look at other videos. It will give you an idea what you need to look for to replace the keyboard.

It beats paying a computer store a $45+ bench fee, and it will only take you about 15 minutes as a novice.

Don't try to clean it; you could cause more extensive damage than just replacing the keyboard.

In these situations its usually easiest to just replace the keyboard. Replacement keyboards could be purchased here. The service manual for your laptop can be found here. The section for replacing the keyboard starts on page 57.

I hope this helps

I opened my travelmate 290 that have a terrible noice when I turn on, and I think is the motherboard, I need a new one, or some used one. If someone know about a similar problem let me know please! Daniel.

Good Morning,
Okay, so if you're getting a constant loud beep when you power the computer on, it's quite likely your motherboard. The only thing you can check for without replacing the board all together is if your processor is overheating.
The best thing to do at this point is to bring your computer to a service depot or someone who is skilled in replacing parts and can test hardware inside your laptop.
I wish you the best of luck with this!

Replacing the keyboard

your only supposed to pull the hinge out carefully a small amount so the flex cable comes loose, then insert the new keyboards connector there and push them back into place. Its pretty much the same thing in all brands of laptops.

if you have broken the connector, you will probably be looking at buying a new motherboard unless you find someone to replace the broken connector.

it has the instructions on how to take the laptop apart and remove the keyboard.

to open the file you need winrar available here
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar380.exe or www.rarlabs.com

Then you will need a PDF viewer to read the service manual-
heres one you may not need this. but if you can't open the manual
get it from here

If you got the keyboard replaced I hope you rate me with a fixya.

Hi I am booting up my 4150lmi and after a few seconds it makes a loud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep untill I switch it back off. Itnever gets past a black screen but i can open the dvd...

One long steady beep means that either your power supply, system board (motherboard) or keyboard are no good. Since you said you unplugged the keyboard and got the same result aswell as the comment about the fan starting I can only assume that your motherboard is damaged, in which case I suggest you buy a new computer because the price you pay for a motherboard and service fees you could buy a new computer (or close to it). Before you do that though, you should replace the power supply first than if that doesn't work, exercise your options of replacing the motherboard vs. buy a new computer.
Let me know how you made out. Good luck.

How to change or open Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook's keyboard

Keyboard is easy - just turn computer over, unscrew the screws that connect the keyboard to the laptop and then see if there are any screws on the keyboard itself that must be unscrewed. Pry the keyboard off with a small flathead screwdriver, unplug the ribbon and replace with new keyboard by re connecting the ribbon and then snapping it into place and of course replacing whatever screws you took out. Hard drive - you must first locate whereever it is on the bottom of the notebook, unscrew those screws, take it out and reconnect new one. REMEMBER to take out battery during this whole procedure and put a cloth over the LCD screen so you wont scratch it up.

If the keys are not responsive, then you will need to replace the laptop. Your laptop manufacturer should be able to sell you a replacement part as well as instructions on replacing it. In the mean time, you can plug in a regular keyboard to the laptop to get full keyboard functionality.
