Emachines m5309 won't boot

I have emachines M5309. I was cleaning off the hard drive to give the computer to a friend, and must have deleted some important files. Now when I turn it on, I get the screen to allow me to choose mode (safe mode, etc., windows normal). But it won't go beyond this. If I press enter, nothing happens, it just freezes. If I wait for windows to start normally, it freezes.

What can I do?

If you have a Install Cd for your version of windows, run it and select repair. If you are running vista, press F8 when the computer is booting and select System Restore (first one on list). If all else fails, re-install windows. You may or may not loose data based on the severity of the error.
good luck

When i push the power button on my emachine the e screen flashes and it wont turn on what do i do to fix this?

If you just did a memory upgrade then the new chip is either not seated properly or the wrong type or even bad. Since it won't boot the problem is the ram in memory slot one. You need to rock it a bit to make sure it is seated before snapping it in. If it is the wrong speed or type you need to exchange it. It can also be bad but that usually means a counterfeit these days or you gave it a static shock and burned it out..

If you put your old ram back in you should be able to work again until you get the ram replaced.

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
You could follow the steps on the manual for your E-Machine for you to be able to restore your computer back to defaults. But just to remind you, it will delete everything on the computer and restore it back to factory defaults.
The manual can be found on this link:
http://www.manualowl.com/m/eMachines/M5309/Manual/119648
refer to page 63 for the instructions on the recovery process.

Hope this could help you a lot!

EMachines ET1810-01 trying to install xp pro on clean hd, cmos does not show hard drive and xp says there is no hd. it is connected. how do i get it to find the hd?

You need to format your hard drive. Set your boot device to cdrom in your bios. Boot using xp cd.DO a reinstall of windows and it should give you the option to format or delete partitions on your hard drive. if that doesnt work try putting the hard drive in another computer to see if it works. Or you can buy a hard drive enclosure that allows you to use your hard drive as an external device.

Clean the inside of the pc and see if that fixes the problem. That means getting the dust out and that could be the reason.

My laptop shuts down frequently. I thought in overheating, but may it be RAM memo?

Here is how to check if its a RAM problem:
Install and run that.
http://www.memtest86.com/memtest34a.zip
This will test you're ram. After it has ran for 24 hrs without errors you're ram is fine.

If it's overheating... here is how to disassemble you're comptuer, and clean it out:

Emachines m5309 turns on, but will just keep trying to restart over and over

I had the same problem. The processor is overheating during start up. At first, it would quit while I was watching a DVD, but it got worse until it wouldn't even boot. I thought it was software but I stuck in a fresh hard disk and tried to install the recovery CD's, but it would do the same thing. I disassembled the laptop, blew out the cooling fins, and applied new heat-sink grease to the processor. That got it to boot on the old HDD, but while I was transferring files it would do the same thing. I finally removed the bottom cover and set it upright in the deep freezer. It worked long enough that I could recover my files. I ended up replacing the processor and RAM, used the recovery CD, and installed the XP-SP3 package. I kind-of eased into using it and it worked great until I tried to install HP printer software. After I did, I noticed a system slow-down and that the cooling fan would kick on more often at idle. I uninstalled the printer and now it works fine for surfing, photos, etc. I just print through a networked printer and don't install anything I don't need.
