well is it a smell of burning rubber? maybe the belt that turns the drum has got jammed. over time these belts get loose and when a full load of clothes are washed the belt slips creating heat hence the smoke..hope this helps..

The motor could be leaking oil. Pull the machine out and look for stains or puddles on the floor.

The bearing on the main spindle probably seized and the motor continued running and burned up the belt. The belt will need to be replaced, and whatever caused the issue in the first place will need to be remedied weather it was a bearing or something else.

This would be the drive belt.Possibly a idler pulley or main motor has gone bad also.Causing the belt to slip and burn.

If you are not overloading the machine, and the front of the motor is pretty hot, then it is going bad. If it smells like rubber, it is the belt.
