The volume icon disappeared

At the bottom of your screen where all the icons are visible you should see an icon that looks like a pyramid. When you pass your mouse over it 'show hidden icons' should appear. Click that icon then click 'customize' to set icon behaviors.

The volume mixer is gone how do I get it back

Hi there,

What operating system are you using?

for windows vista and windows 7 the speaker icon is shown on the lower right corner beside the clock by default.

For windows xp: Go to Control panel, Open Sounds and Audio Devices then put a Tick on show volume Icon on taskbar. Click Apply and click ok.

Hope this helps!

the speaker would have gone bad.If the external speakers connected are working fine, then the sound card is fine.If the system is still under warranty u should get the speakers replaced.Contact dell tech support for that.

Volume on computer wont work

I found many references to this issue but I am not sure which may apply to your problem. Here is a set of steps to follow from another site: (Assumes Vista and Realtek)

  • Open Vista’s Control Panel (Window | Control Panel)
  • Open the Realtek Audio Manager (not “Sound”)
  • In the navigation bar in the far right, there is a little yellow folder icon. It is just below “Device advanced settings” and above “ANALOG”. Click the folder icon.
  • Click “Disable front panel jack detection” so that a yellow check mark shows up. Hit “OK”, and close the Realtek HD Audio Manager. That should re-enable the sound.

The mute wont turn on,on the dell inspiron

Have you tried going into the speaker settings? We'll assume with a new PC you have Vista installed, click the speaker icon on the right side of the tray, and selecting "Mixer" will enable access to volume control for the output devices and for applications.

If no speaker icon is visible To check the volume controls in Windows Vista, click Start and then click Control Panel. Choose Hardware And Sound and then click Adjust System Volume under the Sound section. The Volume Mixer window will open, and you should see volume sliders for Device and Applications. Click and drag the sliders to view the volume level percentages. If the speaker icons show a circle with a red slash, click the icon so the speakers are no longer muted.

Furthermore, you’ll want to double-check all of your master volume and mute settings.
