Hi there. Firstly remove the end with the starter cord and make sure the fly wheel is opening when you pull the cord. If not lubricate it until it frees. If it is working then it could be just the carb gaskets need replacing or the worst case is that the piston is broke and may need sorting.

I have a husqvarna 125L trimmer. I need to get the starter cup off. It's held by a coupling nut. How do I lock the shaft and which way do you turn the nut (left or right hand thread)?

Its a clockwise thread to undo the bolt, you need to put a small bar in the gear head tho to stop it turning. You may have the type of gear head that you hold the top of the shaft with a spanner

I have having problem with my Hysqvaran 125L with the pull cord. When i pulls cord, it not catching the trans and it sound like the spring is not catching?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

It sounds like the starter cup has failed / broken. See this link: (Page 3 item 14.)

However... the pawls on the starter pulley (item 28 above) may have broken.

There is a whole kit for repairing the starter recoil: PN 545180844
That can be found here:

Your need to remove the starter recoil assy and check for damage. It will be obvious. Just remove the mounting screws and lift it off. It is not difficult. Use the first link page 3 to identify the parts you may need once you do the visual inspection with the recoil removed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Have had same problem. This is a very old post so this is for those who have this problem. It is part 15 from the link given up there. WARNING I AM NOT A MECHANIC OR WELL VERSED!!What happens when you pull the handle is two starter couplings(plastic) engage the shaft that engages the engine. When it starts these fall free and allow the engine to spin freely. When they break the engine isn't harmed. You need a star head screw driver and NOT a phillips. Just he two on either side of the starter cup. Don't think you need to take off all 8 or more screws. Just the two. Pull out the other coupling. They just pop in. Buy 2 new ones. The other one is probably compromised anyways. Husqvarna 530059800
Coupling-Starter. Not a very involved process at all. Two screws. Pull off cup. pull out white plastic couplings. Put in new ones. Put the cup and screws back on.

Actually, there are two solutions, did not see the two nubs on parts diagram either but I have done some extensive research and the nubs come with the cup assembly. One solution is to go to and order part # 545102303 or part # 545180844. Both come with the white plastic nubs and springs. Also, what I did with mine if you are tech savy is cut off the stem that goes through the black cup, drill an 1/8th in hole through the bottom of the plastic nub and then assemble nub and spring and secure putting a screw through the hole in the bottom of the black cup, securing the nub. All you are doing is replacing the part of the nub that goes through the plastic cup with a screw. You are pre drilling the hole in the nub so you dont crack the nub with the screw. Make sure the screw is straight so you dont get too close to the edges or it will crack. This method takes crafty hands and good eyesight. If done correctly, they will never pop out again. Promise!

I have a husqvarna 125L gas trimmer and dies after about 5 to 10 min and keeps dying and won't idle, have to keep throttling up

Could be clogged gas cap. Take the cap off and see if you can blow air through it. If no air passes, the trimmer will become vapor locked and wont be able to get enough gas.
