Question about Televison & Video

Hello, i have a magnavox rear projection tv, model number FP4630-W104. I tried to replace my bulb fluid without taking out my bulb first and spilled some fluid on my focus/screen distributor box no fluid got anywhere else fortunately. I learned my lessson:). The fluid made my distributor box smoke for about 10 seconds then I heard a loud single pop. I ordered and installed a new focus/screen distributor box for the tv but the bulbs still don't fire up. The green power light turns on in the front of the tv and the sound works. I checked the main fuse on the power supply board and my meter says there's 120v present. I checked everywhere for somthing burnt or another fuse with no luck. Every power reading on the main circuit board reads 58v so does the powerline going to the main board from the power supply board. Can you please help me.

I have been checking all the components for the last couple days and the back of the boards and can't find anything that looks burnt out or bulged.

Thanks for the reply. I checked all three section boards. Again 120v and 58v readings on main power board. 58v on all circuitd on main board A coming off of power board and 4v on convergence board. If this helps when I power on the tv all the bulbs light up but very dim. too dim to project any picture but they are turning on. ANY IDEAS. Its almost like Im not getting enough power to the bulbs but some is present

  • mwaterstreet Jun 25, 2009

I checked all 3 boards. Again the main power board has 120v and 58v circuits measured. The main board A connected to the main power board has 58v readings on every circuit. The convergence board has 4v readings. All the tubes dimly light up when i power the tv on but the bulbs dont power up fully enough to project an image

I don't see anything that looks out of place. I metered all the boards. The strange thing i see is the power is 120v until right after the main power fuse which is good and then all the components thereafter turn into 58v. I read many posts and they say I am supposed to be getting 120v on the whole board?

  • mwaterstreet Jun 26, 2009

Yeah it is definately a voltage problem. I can see a very little bit of light in the bulbs when I turn it on. One post said to change my bridge rectifier on the main power supply board but the voltage leading up to it is 58v and coming out of it is 58v. This leads me to believe the the issue must be a component before it. There are only 4 components between the 120v fuse and the bridge rectifier. I triple checked them thoroughly and the bottom of the board for burns and nothing. Would it pay for me to replace these one by one?

Here's the only good info I found on the internet concerning my set:

OK, YOU NEED TO CHECK THE 120 VAC LINE FUSE'S, IT IS
(F403) FIRST, THEN (F401) IS SECOND. IF THEY ARE GOOD,
THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE 120 VAC ON PIN'S 1 AND 3 ON (L421).
IT IS LOCATED RIGHT AFTER THE SECOND LINE FUSE( F401).
IF YOU HAVE 120 VAC, THEN REPLACE THE BRIDGE RECTIFIER.
ALSO CHECK THE LINE CORD FOR CARRYING AMPERAGE. JUST
HOOK A LAMP ACROSS THE CORD WHERE IT IS SOLDERED TO
CHASSIS,JUST TO MAKE SURE IT IS DEFINETILY GOOD. IT IS
RARE BUT I HAVE SEEN CORDS GO BAD. THEY WILL READ
VOLTAGE ON A METER BUT WILL NOT CARRY AN AMP LOAD. LET
    ME KNOW, GOOD LUCK

On the L421 component I don't have 120v on pins 1 and 3 like he says i need but I do have 120v on pins 1 and 2. Pins 3 and 4 are 0V. Could this be the problem?

The fact you not getting power to the bulbs are these or any other cacpcitors bulging on any logic or power supply boards do you have bulging or leaking capcitors?

I would check this as this would cause the bulbs not to get full power.

Right until it down converts to other devices with less voltages is why I though it was a capcitor issue. You may want to call manufacture for the service manual and see. Some Tv's vary and 120v whole board up until downconversion would sond feesable. I do not see how 58v can run 3 guns but if you can prove me wrong I would like to know the outcome.

Double check for any burns or shorts and you may need a new bulb i know they're expensive so you might want to go to customer support on the magnavox website

Look thoruoghly over your printed boards for a severed connection(burn-out).
the power may have surged to another component

GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER WITH MANUAL AFTER IT IF YOU NEED THAT.

In the TV menu make sure under audio speakers are switched on.

When you try to change the volume do you get a display on screen?

If the vol buttons on set work the issue is with the remote itself.

Let me know as much as you can so I can help

Philips Magnavox 9p6034c bulb is bad

If you have to replace one, they are very difficult to pull out and replace. You must do a convergence on the color of the tube you replace. You will be replacing a picture tube not a bulb. You may need to replace the fluid in the one tube. Or you may have a convergence problem. You need a TV tech to reveal that the problem is not a bad picture tube....which is rare in your case! Good Luck and thanks for asking!

Color & sharpness problem

Sounds like you need Coolant fluid change, this is the fluid under the Lenses. If you have not done this before I suggest that you get some one who is qualified. Because if the coolant leaks and get to the circuit board, there goes your tv. You need new fluid in the 3 CRT's. If you look down with the back off and looking in the lense, you would see contamination in the fluid, this needs to be taken out and cleaned and replaced with new fluid. The fluid can come from places like MCM electronics corp.

What is model number? A magnavox 51MP392 is a CRT rear projection type and doesn't use a bulb (unless he was refering to the CRT's as bulb). And they are prohibitively expensive.
