When i am switching on my pc the picture shrinks and shows a green line.imy warranty period has expired.i want to know if it is a general problem and can it be repaired or it has to be replaced?

it is possible that the monitor has a power crunch as a lower voltage gives out a shrinking picture. also it is possible that the deflection circuit or the vertical circuit, the vertical driver IC or section is faulty.
You can remove power and check for dry soldering, measure the power supply to confirm.

My compaq monitor just start blinking and now only haft past of the screen is visible. the rest just went black with on bright shining line on the middle of the screen

Your monitor have problem with vertical deflection section. Can caused by the faulty vertical driver IC and faulty electrolytic capacitor it the vertical section or dry soldering in the pins of the vertical driver IC. When vertical section fails horizontal lines come on the screen. For testing the same you have to open the monitor and remove the main board. you can easily find out the vertical ic. just follow the four wire running from the deflection yoke ( coil on the crt neck) of which two will go to the horizontal section (normally red and blue wire) and two will go to the vertical section ( Normally yellow and green wire). Follow the yellow and green wire which will be connected to one of the socket in the main board. Follow the circuit track in the main board which will lead you to the vertical deflection section. There you can see one ic is fitted on a aluminium heat sink.Take a close watch in soldering of its leads. Dry soldiering can happen in its leads because its a component which will got to a temperature about 75 degree above at its normal working condition. if found any dry-soldering or not just resolder all the pins of that ic. then check the monitor. If problem remains then you have to relapse the ic.While replacing the ic try to relapse all the capacitors in that section. It will prevent from any further damage to the new vertical ic. if you need any more assistance feel free to contact me through fixya

No video output no responce from the on\off button

Resolder entire the video section first where the crt socket is located, look the vertical IC & System control IC for loose pins for solder. Check the ABL for open resistor and fault video ic located at CRT socket.

When watching movies on my computer, I am getting a weird line through the middle of the screen at times, also, when things are moving on screen faster, more lines seem to show. I guess they don't really...

i think your vertical IC ( if vertical lines are shown) / horizontal IC ( if horizontal lines are shown) of your monitor has damaged. you may contact a mechanic and change the corresponding IC
