Question about Goodman CLQ36AR49 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I entered questions for the split Goodman HVAC system yesterday. Two people responded. In response to taa43-Tom, I will get more local opinions & quotes tomorrow. Do you live in the Southeast? That's the first I've heard about plastic increasing condensation mold. Where would that be? under plastic on ground, or between plastic and bottom of house around duct work? to barger4, We actually have two systems. The 2 ton HVAC is for a smaller area, and I think it does not have a heat pump. However the 4 ton does. So I guess that is why it needs the reversing valve. Goodman 400 PSI Cased evap coil, Refrig R22, AFUE Efficiency 92.6%. Both systems have electric AC and propane heat. I think the 4 ton has the optional electric heat. I can tell the difference, as the propane heat dries out the air more than the electric heat, and we have a Trion humidity-stat with a tube of water from our water pipes to keep it from getting too dry in the winter. 4 ton Model# CA060A866MER, Serial# S0918020187, The thermostat has the following options: Cool,Off,Heat,Em.Ht. Condenser outside is Model# CPL-J48-1, Serial# 0302453231, 60hertz, voltage197-253,min current amps 27.4, max fuse amps 40, compressor RLA 20.5 LRA 105, Max workg pres.: FLA 1.9 HP ¼, Factory chg oz. R22 159, Factory test pres.PSIG low 150, high 300, part# P14932982. 2 ton Furnace Model# CA036A861MA1R, Serial# S0204030287, The thermostat only has: Cool,Off,Heat. Condenser outside is Model# CLJ24-1, Serial# 0301536323, ACVolts 208/230 phase1 hertz 60, Votsrange min 197, max 253, Min current amps 14.5, Max fuse amps 20, Compressor RLA10.9, LRA60, Max wkg pres Fla 0.9 HP) 1/6 Factory chrg oz R22 99. Factory test pres PSIG low 150 high 300. The wholesalers are very closed about providing prices, but one told me that the reversing valve costs $569 + 7%tax = $609. I suppose they have to take out the Freon & later put it back, and unscrew the valve & put in the new. So back to the main question: 1. Is it the reversing valve that is causing the freon to freeze up or something else? 2.Why would this part go bad? 3. Is $608 a reasonable price for this part? 4.How hard is it to replace this part? 5.Is this $1000 price reasonable? 6. Would I be better off to get a new unit? What did I do wrong, and how can I avoid it in the future? Thank you for your help. Mrs. Howard

Better off taking good money and put into something with a warranty. its probably a 4 hour job to recover solder in new valve change drier pull vacuum recharge If your system is freezing up it may not be the valve could be a check valve. low freon dirty unit all would cause the unit to freeze up is the company competent in working on heat pumps don't get some body that can work on you want in FIXED . from what you said in your 2nd post i am not convinced its the valve. Tom p.s i am in the mid west prices are not too far out of line.

Goodman air condenser is humming but the fan does not come on

The most likely cause is the fan motor has failed. If it turns free then see if the capacitor is bad. Turn off the power remove the capacitor. Your local supply houses can test it for you.

First of all is this unit a heat pump i'm not up on goodman model #'s if it is a heat pump reversing valves do go not a real common problem 1000.00 is excessive i would be inclined to get a 2nd opinion. plastic over the sand could create a condensation mold problem. Good luck. Tom

How do you get 2 pictures on the split screen?

In response to your e-mail, I have not solved the problem, nor have I had any responses to my query. I do not want to join the Premier Assistance Plan for an answer to a simple question. I am, however, beginning to feel like your suggestion to "Let our Experts solve your problems for FREE" was perhaps a come-on to sell your plan. I sincerely hope not, as it was very comforting to think that there were still people out there who just simply like to help other people as I do. If you are unable to respond to my question for free please let me know, and I will look for answers elsewhere.
Thank you,
Karen Wood

MY HEAT PUMP SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK IN EMERGENCY MODE

the thermostat sub base has a place to connect a wire usually white to energize the heat strips when you push the stat way hotter than the house temp. that is why the strips come on in normal heat. it also has a terminal that is only energized in emergency heat and it also should have a wire connected to it so that terminal can supply power to the strips when the stat is switched into emerg heat . you can identify the terminal from the wiring diagram and if need be jumper w2 wire over to the aux terminal and it will work. they both go back into the airhandler and power the same strips. w2..................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips or w2...jumper to aux......................................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips.

Goodman split not responding to remote

First turn the main power off to the unit at the breaker, wait about five min. and switch the breaker back on, then see if this solves the problem. In the instalation manual that came with the unit on the last page you will see a code of the red blinking light, this will tell you the most likely problem if not solved by switching the breaker on again.............Hope this helps
