Question about Xerox WorkCentre XD105F Laser Printer

10 Answers

I have a Xerox WorkCentre XD105f laser copier.

I replaced the drum. Now I get CH error which means insert toner.
However I already inserted the toner and reinserted it. I know the toner still has enough ink. I turned the copier off for 20 seconds and then on again but I still get the CH error.

I unplugged the power, waited 20 seconds, and reinserted the toner and the drum. I still get error CH which is now blinking.

  • David2010 Jun 24, 2009

According to the manual, the CH error stands for
    "install the toner cartridge".

  • David2010 Jun 25, 2009

The tab on the toner hopper is at the back of the toner cartridge breaks??

I do not see a tab.

What is a "breaks"? What is a toner "hopper"

  • David2010 Jun 25, 2009

Yes a larger diagram would help.

    What is the "main pwb"?

  • David2010 Jun 25, 2009

How do I set settings back to factory default settings?

  • David2010 Jun 26, 2009

Knocking on the toner cartridge made the CH error go away.
However when I remove the toner cartridge and the drum, the CH error came back. I had to knock on the toner cartridge again to make it go away.

If you are using the incorrect part number Toner Cartridge, this can cause you to get a J1 code when there is still toner in the Toner Cartridge, among other possible problems. It is possible for the incorrect Toner Cartridge to fit into your machine, and work for approximately 100 copies, then stop working. Using the incorrect Toner Cartridge can also cause possible damage to your WorkCentre.

  1. Open the Side Panel on the right side of the WorkCentre.
  2. Open the Front Cover.
  3. Pull the Toner Cartridge (the cartridge on the left) out by pressing down the green Release Button and pulling the Toner Cartridge out towards you.
  4. To tell the difference between an XD series and an XL series Toner Cartridge:
    • If you still have the box the Toner Cartridge came in, check the Part Number. The XD Toner Cartridge is part number 6R914. The XL Toner Cartridge is part number 106R482.
    • The XD Toner Cartridge has a "finger hole" on the front of the Waste Toner Sump; the XL Toner Cartridge does not. Look at the clear plastic box on the front of the Toner Cartridge (the Waste Toner Sump). If there is a "finger hole" on the front of the Waste Toner Sump with a screw inside of it, you have an XD Toner Cartridge.
    • The newer XL Toner Cartridges have a peach-colored Developer Gear. Look at the gears on the back end of the Toner Cartridge. If the widest gear is peach-colored, you have an XL Toner Cartridge. However, the original XL Toner Cartridges had white Developer Gears, so a Toner Cartridge with all white gears could be either an XD or an XL Toner Cartridge, so check for the "finger hole" as well.
  5. If you determine that you have the wrong Toner Cartridge for your model machine, you will need to replace your current Toner Cartridge with the correct part number.

Since toner is a powdered substance, it can sometimes settle or clump inside the Toner Cartridge and give you a CH code. Knocking on the Toner Cartridge will break up the clumps of toner to allow the WorkCentre to access the toner.

NOTE: Always hold the Toner Cartridge over a waste basket to avoid toner spilling on your clothing or floor.
  1. Open the Side Panel on the right side of the WorkCentre.
  2. Open the Front Cover.
  3. Pull the Toner Cartridge (the cartridge on the left) out by pressing down the green Release Button and pulling the Toner Cartridge out towards you.
  4. Hold the Toner Cartridge over a waste basket.
  5. Knock across the top of the Toner Cartridge.
  6. Reinsert the Toner Cartridge.
  7. Close the Front Cover.
  8. Close the Side Panel.
  9. Try to make a copy.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Additionally - the unit must be unplugged for 5-10 minutes (not just 20 seconds) for a hard re-boot to allow internal capacitors to discharge fully.

Here is a snapshot of the page in the service manual.

Basically, if the 2 locating pins on the back of the toner are not broken, then the main pwb is at fault:

Sorry it's so small, but fixya limits the size to 150k; hardly enough for any detail. Let me know if you need to see a larger version.

When the CH is flashing the machine may not see the cartridge. Open a tab (the one that tells the machine that the cart is in) at the back of the cart breaks. The tab is on the toner hopper of the cart. If it is a steady ON, it can be either a door switc or a blown copy lamp thermofuse which can be unlikely.

This also happens when you use a sharp cartridge since the pins may be slightly not aligned.

Thanks

The CH error is illustrated in the user manual as a possible incompatibility or wrong alignment. you may want to check on the drum that you have if it is an OEM.

you may refer to fixyourownprinter.com for more info.

Some part(developer, drum, imaging unit, fuser) or something else is not installed properly or is not plugged into the machine. Check all assemblies that can be removed from the copier, amd make sure they are installed and plugged in properly.
The 'CH' code will automatically reset when the fault is found

Thanks
Kevin

this is a page from the manual

The toner indicator on the copier diagram will light when the toner supply is

low. Approximately 10 more copies can be made, but you should have a

replacement cartridge in stock. When the J1 status code is displayed, the

machine will stop operating until the toner cartridge is replaced.

    Note:
Ensure that the alternate paper tray

    is lowered (XD104/ 105f/ 124f/ 155df only).

    1. Press the release lever to open the side

    cover.

    2. Press the front cover release buttons to

    open the front cover.

    3. Press down on the green lever on the

front of the old toner cartridge and pull

    the cartridge out.

    Note:
    Help the environment by recycling

your used toner cartridge. Refer to the

recycling brochure packed with the Toner

    Cartridge for details.

    4. Shake the new toner cartridge

horizontally four or five times and then

    remove the cover.

    • Save the box and the cover for

    shipping.

    5. Slide the new toner cartridge in until it

    locks in place.

    6. Close the front cover and the side

    cover.

    • Wait for the ready indicator to light.

Drum life low replace soon Error Message

I already answered this at some other place here - but just to make sure the word gets out there:

There is a little special (white) gear on the outer left side of the drumkit - a little bit below where the toner sits. That gear joins with toner assembly - and you can rotate it counterclockwise all the way back. This should reset the drum counter - worked for me!

I hope it also does the trick for you ;-)
