Question about KitchenAid Superba KSRG25FK Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice build up on a corner of the coil.

I have a built in kitchenaid refrigerator and it keeps having ice build up on one side of the coil near the return air vent opening from the refrigerator side. This ice build up blocks the vent completely and prevents the air circulation so the refrigerator cannot keep cool while the freezer becomes too cold. A repairman checked it and said the defrost heater and thermostat works fine. Is it a problem with the main board or the refrigerator door's gasket not tightly sealed? By the way, there is no ice build up at the rest of the coil. It only builds up at the upper corner of the coil near the return air vent.Thanks.

I have the identical problem and the unit is only 6 years old. It doesn't seem to be the freon, but I am not sure how to rule out the compressor

I changed the main board on my refrigerator and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Freezer side not cold enough, similar temperature as Refrigerator side

It could be many things. My first guess would be the defrost. The coil that gets cold in your freezer builds ice on it and the only way to get the ice off is to run a heater near the coil long enough for the ice to melt. All freezers have something built in to defrost and domestic are typically just an electric heater on a timer. When your freezer stops working again, you may want to pull open the panel of your freezer and see if your coil (a heat exchanger that probably looks a lot like your car radiator) is covered in ice. If it is, it could be the timer or the actual heater that is bad.

Discovered ice build up on bottom of freezer in side by side KitchenAid Superba. Figure it is a defrost drain clog.... How do clear the clog?

I have ice in the bottom of my freezer section also in an older one of these, but I have traced it down to some sort of leak in my ice maker line. It only occurs when the ice maker is making ice, and not when the ice tray is full. Mine also leaks through the front door seal and into the floor if I don't keep scraping out the ice from the bottom (to clear out the "reservoir" that holds the water till it turns to ice).

I came on this site looking for a way to locate the leak and get to it. You might try scraping out the ice and turning off the ice maker for a while and see if the ice no longer forms at the bottom. Then at least you have localized it a little!

I have an amana side by side refrigerator. The ice is building up

There is a drain hole under all of that ice that got clogged at some point and it started building up ice in that area.  The water that is freezing is coming from the defrost cycle which melts all of the ice buildup on the evaporator coil.  First melt the ice.  Then unclog the drain hole.  The drain goes to a tray in back near the compressor, where the heat from the compressor evaporates the water.

GE 24 Profile refrigerator: The freezer part

my refrigerator goes into auto defrost every 60hrs for 45 minutes or till the bi metal(defrost thermostat) says it had enough....recently i had ice built up on the coil because my defrost thermostat was stuck open...

ice builds up because the moisture that comes from opening the door or food condenses on the cold coil...tempurature of the coil is below 32 degrees which will ice up the condensed moisture...

defrost is timed to remove this build up

Ice maker makes ice, but not nearly as much as it used to. What do you suggest. Water flow out dispenser is fine. Filter has been replaced.

I would suggest making sure the coils under the refrig are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc . Also , letting the ice build up so it gets closer to the bottom of the ice maker (coldness of the ice will help keep the ice maker cold ) will result in ice maker cycling more often (making ice) .

Refrigerator section will not keep a constant temperature

Check the coils at the back of the freezer for ice build up. If there is have it defrosted by unplugging the unit and have it cleaned. If there are none, have the coils cleaned with something soft. Otherwise there could be a problem with the thermostat.

The water despenser works but the icemaker doesn't

The most popular problem area is the fill tube by the icemaker. Check for an ice build up inside of the tube. If that isn't the problem, you must ck the coils on the filter valve and the coils on the supply valve with an ohm meter. Check for kinked water lines, leaky water lines etc. An after thought, make sure that the icemaker itself hasn't got a huge bunch of ice it built up and can't dump out.

I have an older style kitchenaid refrigerator with french doors on the rightside under the meat storage locker a block of ice forms then melts leaking everwhere (any suggestions)

there should be small defrost heater located on the coil, that turns on when the compressor turns off to stop ice building up. sounds like that is faulty.

Ice build up on coil inside freezer

it can be two things the refrgerator probably has a small refrigerant leak therefore it ices up, or the defrosting heater on the begining of the coil is faulty.

Kitchenaid KSRA25IL Freezer working Fine - Refrigerator not

many times when a unit has a defrost problem the coils freeze up and do not allow the fresh food side to cool properly...check for a build up of ice on the inside back wall of the freezer compartment. if there is a build up of ice, you have a defrost problem. Also, check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is blowing the air into the fresh food side.
