Question about Toro Blowers Rake and Vac - Electric Blower/Vac - 51573
Took apart and directly checked motor - works fine. Continuity checks on other wires are good. Diode does not show continuity thru it with or w/o switch on? If I check it with amp meter what should the reading be? Should this be done with the unit plugged in? Is it better to just replace the entire switch element or just the diode if it is bad? Thanks for your help.

I would check it at the start of every season and clean it. If you note that it seems to be running rich and might have fouled the plug, you can always pull it and check it again. Probably not a bad idea to check it before you put it away for the season. As for replacement, it depends on condition. I would think that you should get two or three season's use out of it before needing to replace it, at least.

Yes there is. Unplug the unit, pull the plastic adapter that converts it between vac and blower off and you'll see the little square reset button. It is recessed into the case. Push it in until it clicks, replace the adapter and plug it in and go. Good luck!

When testing a diode you need to lift one end of the component to prevent a second path of continuity. If you lift one end, and you have continuity in both directions when reversing the polarity, it would be shorted or defective. Does your Fluke have a Diode or Semiconductor setting? This will show you the voltage drop for the N/P junction which will be a better test than using the Ohm setting. If the diodes check good, test the motor windings, switch and heating element.
