Hi, there, pleasy clarify the following:
What is your Gateway model? Is your TV an older tube type or a new HDTV? Does it have other input ports besides the standard cable input and the RCA you mentioned? You may be able to use S-Video if your laptop has the output port and so does your old TV. Or if you have a newer laptop that includes DVI and you have an HDTV, then you can use a DVI to HDMI cable which by the way will result in the best image quality.

Connect the VGA to VGA cable with your laptop turned off. Upon turning on your laptop the image will appear in both screens, your laptop and TV. If it doesn't, simply press the Fn key in your laptop along with the appropiate key to switch between LCD, TV or both. In most DELL this will be Fn+F8, check the additional incons or drwaing on your F# keys, it should be pretty clear which one you need to press along with the Fn key to switch between displays.

Yes, thats all you need. If you'd like the audio coming out of the TV or a Home Theater Receiver you'll need a separate audio cable (stereo plug to RCA). Have fun!

Why is my 42" Phillips LCD TV losing the picture about 1-2 seconds after turning it on? The blue power light at the bottom stay on even after the picture has gone away though.

Beware of doing anything to Philips brand TVs, without previous experience in service. This is the first thing I have to say to you.
Unlike other brand TVS, the Philips circuits are more complicated, and will be difficult to follow to a new-be. I think, you got me.
Please contact the authorized service center for Philips.

Video Not Supported

You would be better trying to connect from the laptop VGA to the TV Scart. But you will still need to set your laptop up to output a screen resolution that the TV can display.

I have a emachine laptop i cant get online everything else works tried everything keeps saying im connected but my ip address is wrong tried to manually fix it but it wont take wht do i do?

Networks can be a little complicated and very picky.
Much of it depends on how the network is set up. Many will allow you to use DHCP, which means you set the device to accept whatever IP configuration that the network assigns. Some require a set IP address, subnet make, gateway and DNS numbers.

You must know the IP address for the Gateway ( which is usually the main network connection device that connects the network to the internet) and DNS, which is often the same as the gateway, and the subnet ( which will often fill in when you tab from the IP address for the device), in order to manually fill in IP configuration on your laptop.
You need to speak to the person who set up your network so you can see how your device needs to be configured.

I hope you find this information helpful and informative. If you found it helpful, please leave postivie feedback for me.

Thank You,

Connect my gateway laptop to my phillips tv

It is very difficult to hook a laptop to a TV using the method you are trying. To get it to work go into your display settings (right click on desktop, go to properties, settings tab) and drag the slider bar all the way to the left (to the lowest possible setting, the numbers should get smaller as you slide it). Then try again. Currently the resolution is not compatible with your TV.
