My laptop was stolen and I got it back, but no hard drive. I put different hard drive in it, but now I no longer have any connections to the internet. No wireless and even if I plug the ethernet cable into it, nothing happens either.

Download and install free software called RECUVA. It can search the entire external hard drive. This will take some time to complete. Then you'll see a list of files which have been found. Please recover/save the files to a different hard drive.
Take your hard drive out again and check that the connections are clean. Replace the hard drive and secure it with a screw. The hard drive should not just fall out when you open the back. Now disconnect your laptop from the power source and take the battery out. Wait 20 seconds and replace the battery. Power up the laptop and you should no longer get the message.
You have to find the person that put the Hard Drive Password on. I'm not saying you stole the laptop, but 99% of the time if a person has a laptop and does not know the hard drive password, the laptop is stolen. The original Owner put the password on the hard drive to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. It could have been set remotely by the original owner if the laptop i stolen.
You my friend are up the creek without a paddle. How could you forget the Hard Drive Password? Oh I know, it's a stolen laptop. If you're smart enough to set a password on the hard drive, then you're smart enough to remember it. 99% of computers with passwords on the hard drive and the person that has the laptop doesn't know the password, either stole it or bought it hot off the streets. The real owner set the password to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data if it is ever stolen. They might have even set the password remotely once it was stolen. The laptop is useless unless the real owner puts the password in to unlock it.
What's locked on it? There are three passwords that can be set on a computer. 1) Bios Password, 2) Hard Drive Password & 3) Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password. Which one are you talking about?
If you're talking about the Hard Drive Password, then 99% of the time it's a stolen laptop. If you're smart enough to set the hard drive password, you're smart enough to remember it. The Hard Drive Password is set the by original owner to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. Sometimes the original turns on the Hard Drive Password remotely once the laptop is stolen. The only way to break the code is for the original owner to put the password in. The stolen laptop is useless to the thieves without the Hard Drive Password.
You will want to remove 15 screws from the bottom of the laptop, there are three different lengths so you will want to mark them so you know where to put them back. (if you put a longer screw in the wrong hole you can kill the motherboard) Then lift the bottom cover from the computer. The hard drive is then visible, remove the one screw that holds the hard drive in place and then slide the drive to the right and lift it out. Four more screws hold the hard drive in its bracket remove the drive from the bracket (note how it comes out so you make sure you put it back in the same way) Put everything back in reverse order.
