Question about John Deere 420,1020,2010,2020,2510,2520 Tractor Float
All owner's manual starting procedures are being followed. Had it running last year, ran it out, drained gas line and removed carb cup. Now, charged battery, good gas, spark, pump works, new gas filter. Won't even turn over when I remove the air filter and spray in some starting fluid. Float on carb seems OK. I cleaned carb on the engine, but have not yet removed it and tried a serious soaking. Even if an orifice in the carb is stuck, shouldn't the starting fluid have gone straight to the engine and turned it for a second? Can the plug show me spark but still be weak or otherwise defective? Have had this tractor since it was new, has been used very little, usually runs great. Kawasaki engine looks almost new. Have taken it to JD before, a couple of times over the years, with same problem, They soak the carb overnight, blow it out, and it works. So, I will try that, but I still don't understand why it doesn't fire when I spray a little starting fluid straight through to the engine. Hey, while I have your attention(and if you have read this far and are the guru for the other problem), same tractor, the solenoid is starting to stick sometimes. Is there any way I can rejuvenate(lubricate?) and get some more mileage out of it? Thanks
*cyliniod sticking... try banging on it with the blunt end of a good heavy screw driver / or the handle of a hammer. might free up the contacts, or it might be too rusted inside...
*yes to the first part about starting fluid...the starting fluid should have fired off the motor for a few seconds...so since you didnt get anything after this, it sounds like your not getting adequite fire to the cylinder (s) .
i would try a new spark plug since that would be the cheapest thing to start with first.
