Yes, you can take it appart. Be advised that absolutely everything that was assembled, canb dissassembled as well.
And to get your ID back, just get yourself some tools, and start dissassembling And look for it after screw or bolt taken off
I can't give you any details, as even you are not sure where exatly it got stuck now, so just use common sence, and after you'll put it back together, we'll have another FixYa Expert with expertise about top-load washers.

Good Luck

Where do you locate the model number on a whirlpool calypso?

The model number on Whirlpool manufactured top loaders is usually printed on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the lid.

Washers are more advanced and stylish than ever before. When you're buying a washer, look for features that make washing easier and more efficient, less costly, and kinder to fabrics. Thanks to advances in technology, it's all possible - and our washer buying guide shows you how.

Washer Types
Feature options, capacity, energy use and style are all factors to consider when deciding between a front- or top-loading washer.
oth top-loading and front-loading washing machines will do a good job of cleaning your clothes. The most significant differences between these types of washers are capacity, energy efficiency, water use, feature options, and style.

Top-loading machines

Traditional top-loading washing machines are available in a wide assortment of models, price ranges and styles. The most basic top-loading washers perform very well and are generally a good value for a no-frills, clean wash. Other top-loaders offer more cycle and temperature selections, spin speeds, and fabric care extras as they increase in price. Overall, top-loading washers are generally less expensive to purchase than front-loading machines, but are slightly more costly to run because they use more water and electricity.

Most top-loaders fill the tub with enough water to cover the clothing, then agitate them to get the clothing clean. Some manufacturers now offer high-efficiency top-loading washers using a number of different technologies. One such technology is the Whirlpool® Calypso® wash plate. Instead of agitating fabrics to get them clean, the wash plate moves them through a shower of concentrated detergent and water. The action is gentler on fabrics; it's designed to provide better cleaning with far less stress to garment fibers. And with the agitator out of the way, the washer has more room to clean bulky items such as comforters and rugs.

Standard capacity for a top-loading washing machine is 12 to 16 pounds per load. The Calypso wash plate model can hold up to 18 pounds of laundry (think the equivalent of 16 pairs of jeans).

Here is a link to some Whirlpool washers for you to look over.

We have a calypso by whirlpool, keep getting LD code, replaced pump with upgraded version last year. code started back again this week. removed hoses looking for obstructions, nothing, took out washer...

Did you check the impeller of the pump? These washers - Sears version included - seem notorious for eating clothes and sucking them into the pump's impeller, jamming it or clogging it. You have to stick your finger inside the plastic impeller pipes (in or out) and see if anything is wound around the blades. The upgraded pump is a single sealed unit that you cannot take apart or you'd probably void the warranty on the part. I find that articles of clothing tend to get pretty deeply embedded in the impeller and have to be carefully pulled out, and you can't see anything if you just remove hoses looking in them for obstructions. You can certainly remove the pump assembly and look down the pipes with a flashlight. When you removed the waster plate did you replace the gaskets/seals? If not, that can lead to problems with the integrity of the water tight seals that protect the U-Joint.

Clothes wrapping under agitator

Somewhat inherent in this design. You can try to carefully unwrap the clothes by gently rocking them back and forth to see if you can release them, or gently spin the drum while you tug (not too hard!) on the stuck clothes. The wash plate seal might be compromised, but if you start taking the inner workings apart you have to replace the gasket set. I have not tackled this on my unit yet though I have replaced the old pump motor with the improved one (single piece instead of 2 pieces), and I have gotten adept at taking the unit apart from the bottom to remove draw strings which get sucked into the pump impeller, jamming or clogging it. The wash plate seal might be getting old - I think mine probably needs to be replaced but doing that will require more extensive repairs than just putting in a new seal. The service manual warns several times about replacing the proper seals, gaskets o-rings and/or grommets if you remove the outer or inner wash plates, to avoid compromising the water tight seals and causing damage to the U-joint assembly that gives the washer its characteristic wash motion.

Kenmore Elite Calypso Washer

I'm in the process of tearing apart my Calypso, Ugh. I found the diagnostic chart inside the machine. 5L is actually 'SL' which means suds lock, and can be an indicator of a failed pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds. Corrective action is to press Stop/Cancel to clear the display.

Clothes getting sucked under agitator

I was able to find information on another web site with a Whirlpool Calypso repair manual: https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/2c1e295a88aaaae885256c5d004632a4/$FILE/8178010.pdf

Check out steps 5 and 6 on page 36:

6. Using two (2) flat bladed screwdrivers, 90°
apart, in the notches provided, separate the
dome from the outer wash plate. (Fig. 3-11)

7. Remove the six (6) 3/8” bolts securing the
outer wash plate to the universal joint.
(Fig. 3-12) Remove the outer wash plate
from the basket.

That gave me enough room to lift the outer wash plate and remove three napkins and a wash rag.

P.S. Take precautions to keep the bolts from dropping under the outer wash plate.
