Hey there, the first thing you need to do is go to the windows update sie and make sure you have all the sound drivers, sounds like you may be missing one. www.microsoft.update.com Second, if you have a factory pc like a HP or Dell, you can go to their site, enter your product number and download all the drivers you need. If you have a custom build, go to the following site and install and run Belarc advisor. When its done, it will bring up a page telling you everything you need to know about your PC including motherboard manufacturer and model number, PC product number and serial number if you need it for DELL or HP or whoever made it. Let me know how you make out.

My computer says that I do not have a audio devise installed, I have no sound. I have a gateway model # gt5082 serial # xcm65q1005073

A couple of helps, I will try.
Go to the system in control panel, if it is Windows, and check if you have any sound device installed.
If that produces no device in the sound, then proceed to re-install the drivers for you type of sound device in the unit.
If one is installed, remove and reinstall with the correct driver.
If this fails, and you have sound on the mother board, you may have a bad board, or something may be turned off in the bios or on the mother board, such as jumpers wrong.

Missing Sound Device

Possibilities are that sound driver might have been corrupted during restore.
So try reinstalling the driver from the mother board's driver cd.
It should do the job for you.

Rarely the worse happens when the mother board's sound card is corrupted, even so you can add an adiitional sound card to mother board and can get back the sound..

But mostly it is the first situation you are facing,.. so reinstalling the sound card driver should do the job for you. It is only the software oriented problem

Sound problem

Go to Device Manager and check if you see a Red X next to the Sound Device.
Reinstall the Sound drivers & so the device.
The drivers seem to have corrupted in the process of mother board CD installation and other things that you installed.
If this doesn't help, or you have any confusions, tell me what machine you have & what O.S

Thanks & Gud Luck!!
