THE 1ST THING TO DO IS TEST THE MOTOR, U CAN DO THIS BY MAKING UP A 110 VOLT AC JUMPER AND TESTING THE MOTOR WITH IT, IF THE MOTOR RUNS THEN THE CONTROL CIRCUIT IS DEFECTIVE.

Where do the filters go?

You didn't state what model so I can't answer where your filters go. Most vacuums have 2 or 3 filters that need cleaned frequently and replaced when they become restricted. Air must pass from the nozzle at the floor through the dirt cup or bag and filters and through the motor to keep the motor cool, then exit the vacuum back into your home. Clogged filters will shorten the life of the motor and your vacuum won't have near as much suction and airflow. If your vacuum is bagless You most likely have one or two filters filtering the air between the dirt cup and the motor intake to keep dirt and grit from being sucked into the motor which will cause premature failure. There is usually a HEPA filter filtering the air coming out of the motor. if you are seeing a lot of dust on your vacuum that is a sign you may need to replace the filters.

My dc41 stopped all suction. the beater bar spins fine, but no air is moving. as in, is there a separate motor that just croaked?

If your motor is making it's normal sound, it most likely is working. Check for clogs by removing all removable pipe bends and examining visualy, check the hose by running a long broomstick through it. Clean, wash and dry all filters. Check for suction at the port closest to the motor.

Periodically my Dyson DC07 stops operating, and then will resume operating after about a 10 minute wait period. Is there a thermal switch or "cutout" if the motor is overheating?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC07 is equipped with a thermostat which shuts the machine down for protection if it starts to overheat. This will often be due to a blockage, and the pre-filter may also be overdue for a wash.

The machine will reset automatically after it's been allowed to cool down, but to prevent this from happening again there are a few simple check you can try: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc07/dc07-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-won-t-switch-on-or-cuts-out/my-machine-cut-out-whilst-i-was-using-it/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

We recommend washing the filter at least once every 3-6 months, using cold water without detergent. Allow the filter to dry completely before replacing it - this may take at least 12 hours.

Removing any blockages and washing the filter thoroughly should resolve the issue. However, if your machine continues to shut off after you've tried both of these steps please get in touch with us directly so we can talk you through some additional troubleshooting checks. I have a eureka endeavor nls that does not have floor suction anymore although the hose is clear and the roller is working when on. what is going on...i am very frustraited because it is over heating

a vacuum works by sucking in air and passing the filtered air through the motor to keep it cool
if the motor is overheating and there is no suction , then you have a blockage
If you cannot see it take it to a service center to have it cleaned out

I'm not really a technician, but I used to sell Filter Queens and was taught how to maintain them, and have tackled "fixing" some problems. I am a 71 year old great-grandmother of 8, but have good health...

i just took my old majestic apart to fix the motor
on mine, when you open the top of the machine where the exit hook up is
you take out those three screws
the top case comes off and you can get to those three screws and alot more of the motor as well

Good Luck !

Try running th roomba with the dust bin removed to see if the main brush is turning, if not it could be an issue with the gears being stripped in the brush motor assembly or inside the brush compartment holder. If the gears are fine the brush motor itself may be blown. A new one is about $30.00.
