I have a toshiba satellite a355-s6935 the lcd screen was replaced as it had been smashed. Now there is no display on new screen or if I attach an external monitor. All I get is black screen, is it...

Most laptops have a "toggle" to control the video-output:
* only to the internal LCD,
* only to the external VGA port,
* to both internal and external.

Toggle to activate the external VGA port, and connect an external monitor.
If you don't get a picture, then the computer's video-adapter is the problem.

Take the laptop into a darkened room, and look at the LCD screen.
If the inverter is dead, there still should be a VERY-FAINT picture.

When i turn the notebook on i can see nothing blank black screen

Sounds like one of two issues,

1. You have the internal display turned off. When you turn the laptop on you should hear a single beep. Do you see the Sony Logo during bootup? Have you tried to turn the display back on? Try pressing the Fn+F7, or Fn+F8, key combination. There are only three modes and these key combinations allow you to cycle through these modes. Either the Primary Screen is on, or the External Screen is on, or both are on.

2. You may have a bad video card or the screen is dead. When you power up the laptop, can you see a glow, but the screen is black? Can you see the Bootup Screen with the Sony Logo, but barely? Have you tried to connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if the video card is working? If you get video to the external monitor, the video card is working. If you don't, then the video card may be bad. If you are getting video on the external monitor, try using the key combinations listed above and try to cycle through your Internal/External display modes.If nothing shows up on the laptop display then the LCD screen may be bad. It could be the back light. Those are internal to the LCD. That means you will have to replace the entire LCD display on the laptop.

Hope that helps.

It displays colorful lines on the monitor...cant see nothing

Test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if the external video goes bad too. If both, internal and external images go bad, you have a problem with the video card.
If external works fine and only internal goes bad, most likely it’s either bad video cable or LCD screen failure.

No video appearing on screen of IBM intel celeron model r51e monitor

Attach an external CRT (or LCD) monitor to the VGA-output port,
and reboot the laptop. Does anything show-up on the external screen?

You might have to press "FN + something" to toggle the computer:
* video-output only to internal screen
* video-output only to external screen
* video-output to both screens

to get video-output to the external screen.

Or, take the laptop into a darkened room.
Now, do you see anything at all, even faintly,
i.e., your normal "desktop-icons" and "wallpaper" ?
If so, then the "video-inverter" part of your LCD screen has failed.
It's about a $20 part, but you should add $60, for one hour of labour
by a qualified technician, to disassemble your computer, replace the bad part, reassemble and test.

Screen won't work on external monitor

Most laptops have a "video" option:
* output only to internal screen
* output only to external screen
* output to both screens

Be sure to select the 2nd or 3rd option.

Also, reset your internal screen-resolution to 1024 by 768;
hopefully, your external screen will support this resolution.

Acer aspire 1500 no screen harddrive working software putting out correct start-up sounds

Try hooking the laptop up to an external monitor, use a vga cable. If the main display has died, the laptop may default a secondary if given the chance. If the laptop sounds like it boots but you can't see a screen on the external display try holding down the Fn key and at the same time tap the F5 key, this will toggle the display from internal to external. If a screen still cannot be seen then you may have lost the video processor on the motherboard.

My hp 500 screen blank

The first thing to do is connect an external monitor to the external video connector since you can't troubleshoot what you can't see. If you aren't sure of whether your computer has started you can press the CAPS Lock key off and on to see if the indicator lights up. If the external monitor displays for you then use your Fn keys to switch between external and internal monitor. Control Panel's Device Manager will tell you if there is a monitor or video card fault. If the external monitor doesn't work then internal video adaptor is disconnected or dead. Another option is to connect your S3 video to a TV or DVD player. Some typical faults are a burned out CCD bulb in the LCD module, a ribbon connector bad or disconnected from the mobo to the LCD and a motherboard fried from spilling your drink onto the keyboard. Opening the the laptop is bad juju if you aren't qualified to put it back together but you can get service procedures if the computer is out of warranty and care to try.
