Question about Pc America Restaurant Pro Express

Cash drawer problems

So my company has recently purchased Restraunt Pro Express and the setup has only run into mild problems, what I'm stuck on right now is getting the cash drawer to open correctly. We are using cash drawers connected to a receipt printer model GP-80160II and I was wondering if anybody knew how to properly configure this program? Thank you in advance

In the setup screen > in hardware section> select "USB printer" to open drawer

I think the issue here may be that that printer isn't supported. i've gotten some success by setting it up as a "generic/text only" printer, or by getting it to emulate an Epson TM-T88III printer (sometimes, just using the epson driver is enough!). give those things a shot, but you may just need to get a different printer.

How do I disable cash drawer from opening upon closing a cash sale for a server carrying their own bank?


You could disable permission to end transactions. This would stop cash drawer pop but might not be feasable for your operation.

Restaurant pro express; upgraded to new computer. Credit card processor won't work. call PC america and they want a boatload of cash to help. want to ditch this system soon, so don't want to pay....


You didn't say who the processor was. Many require a software program to interface with RPE that you need to install on new computer. Contact your processing company and they should point you in the right direction, if they want your business.

We recently had a break in, they took the cash drawer and did some cosmic damage to everything else. We took the opportunity to upgrade our computer. we recently changed our computers and reinstalled RPE...


Hi Jon,
The cable from the cash drawer plugs into the receipt printer, not the computer. If you plugged everything into computer as you said, this is your problem. A tech not familiar with POS systems would not know this.

I have a client with a Posiflex system running PC America Restaurant Pro Express 9.5. This was a used system which I purchased from a discount house. I set it up and delivered it to the client a week...


You could try reloading RPE. It only takes a few minutes and could correct the problem. You would not lose any settings because they are stored in the database. Be sure to backup database before you do this.
But why aren't you running it thru the receipt printer. Much more reliable.

I added the wrong starting cash.and would like to know how to change it to the right amount


Changing the starting cash drawer count is not a simple procedure. You can clock the employee out. When asked for the drawer count, ignore what is in drawer and enter the incorrect starting amount. Then clock the employee back in and enter the correct starting amount.

If you wish to tidy up the records, go into time management and delete the first clockin record. Then edit the starting time of the second clockin to match the first record that you deleted.

My servers will be using their own bank for cash transactions, I cannot figure out how/ where to enter that. It keeps prompting for a drawer amount- and a drawer to assign them to..........


The drawer amount would be the cash they are starting with in their own bank. Enter '0' if they are starting with nothing. Generally the drawer assignment would be left at '0'. This assigns them the drawer at the station they are logged into.

My cash drawer will not open. it was working fine until i had to unplug printer and when i plugged it back in it did not work


Reboot the PC. This should re-establish the connection to the cash drawer thru the printer. Check the cable connection from the printer to the cash drawer. You can check it in RPE by going to CASHIER FUNCTIONS and hitting OPEN DRAWER.

Restraunt Pro Express problems


Option 1 (Ethernet II only): Using a web browser, type the default IP address (found on a label on the interface card) into the address field of your web browser. The configuration screen should appear. The default password for the interface is Epson. We highly recommend this be changed. Once the web interface is running, all application, network, printer and password settings can be modified.
