1 unit intermittently shuts off and other won't ignite

Rheem Power Vent2 - I had 2 Rheem 40 gal. direct vent gas hot water heaters connected together and one unit turns on but will not ignite and the other unit will turn on but intermittently shuts off requiring me to reset it by turning it on and off. After the unit shuts off, the red indicator light repeatedly blinks twice. Any suggestions?

Yes. While the water lines of the 2 units are connected, each units has its own vent pipe and the fan motors work. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I'm not sure I understand. Both heaters work and then after a day or 2 they just trip and I get an indicator light that blinks twice. If it's vapor gases building up, what do I do to fix it. There is no elbow on the exterior vent pipe. Is it possible air is blowing in and causing the vapor build up. I'm at a loss and don't want to have to replace the units. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you have the exhaust run together it will not light up,, they have to be seperate,, the computer board sences the unburnt gasses and will not allow it to start,,

Have 75 gallon gas water heater. Can I run 90 PVC off top power vent without vertical PVC first? Have Richmond unit.

1) I believe you can immediately elbow the PVC pipe.
There is a limit for how many elbows can be used between blower and termination, and limit is determined by diameter of PVC pipe.

2) Copy following link for venting resources and typical Rheem and Richmond power vent manuals, and diameter-elbow pdf from Bradford White.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#venting

3) Richmond is Rheem. Product manual will show specifications for venting.
Product warranty is voided if installation does not follow specifications shown in manual.

Rheen PVW50 Hot Water Heater Making Buzzing Noise and Doesn't Light

Why is it always Rheem problems?
Every water heater problem is Rheem.
And Rheem doesn't post any service manuals, like the other two big manufacturers, AO Smith-American, and Bradford White.

Copy following link for troubleshoot by gas control valve.

Scroll up and find pressure switch heading among links.

You can install gas control valve yourself.

Rheem power vent 2 water heater keeps shutting off

you need to replace the upper thermostat, it has the overtemp switch made to it. Also make sure that the thermostat is pushed up tight to the tank with no space or object between them.

Rheem power vent motor doesn't shut off

There could be blockage in your water heaters venting on the outside of the home. It sound like the high limit switch has been tripped. Try unplugging the tank and plugging it back in. this will reset the tank. if the problem persists you will want to call your provider for service.

The water heater will cycle 5-6-7 times with no probles then it fails ignition. The water heater is a rheem 50 gal power vent 2. It is about 2 years old.

there is a screen around the bottom of the unit? if so take it off and clean it,, does this unit have a self ignitor, or is it piliot? make sure your flue is clear so the unit is not over heating,, make sure on the power vent that the filter is clear also,, does the fan come on before the gas ignites, if not the circuit board is going bad the fan should start first to omit the gas fumes

Tankless water heater error code 11

I was having the same problem untill I reallized it was my venting system. Test the water heater with no vent on top. Disconnect the vent pipe from the water heater and try turning on the hot water. the water heater needs a special adapter to vent the direct vent water heater. One other thing you can check is the gas pressure in your home. You have to have between 7 and 8 WC (water Column) for the tankless water heaters. You can call your gas supplier to find out what you have.
