I turn the PS3 on the fan comes on then after 2 seconds or so it shuts off and beeps 3 times, and sometimes it works except that it keeps ejects and eating the disc over and over, and sometimes it works like new, but sometimes shuts off around 5 mins to never?.. I think someone spilled something on the front cause the lights on the front are not working either.

Re: Playstation 3 dont work half the time.
You and most all PS3 owners have or will experience this problem. Your Heat Transfer compound is dried up. This to me is a definite Manufacturer Defect. Contact Sony at 1800 345-7669 unless your outside North America. If you know how to get to the heat sinks, I suggest you go there and put some new high quality Heat Transfer compound between your processors and the heat sinks.

In my experience there have only been 2 issues that caused it to beep 3 times. First if you try to eject a disc and there is no disc inside it will do that. Secondly if the PS3 crashes it will beep 3 times and shut off. Typically turning it back on will work but in some cases a yellow light will show up that people refer to as the yellow light of death (YLOD). If that happens your PS3 needs repaired. You can send it to Sony and they will charge you a ton unless it's under warranty still, or you can find a private person or company to replace it. If you go the cheap route be advised that most places will not guarantee they can fix it and Sony won't touch it once it's been opened. Good luck!
Hi everybody, i have seen alot of questions on here that refer to people getting blank screens (no signal) when turning on their ps3 (usually after using it with a HDMI cable but not always) if you are using a standard AV cable (scart or the red/white/yellow leads) and you dont get a picture most of the time all you need to do is
1, Turn on your console at the back so the res standby light comes on
2, Hold down the on/off button on the front for several seconds untill you hear the single beep followed by another single beep then release to reset video settings to default
3, If this did not work, when on standby, hold down the on/off button but when it double beeps do not let go, just keep holding until it switches off then do the same again this time it will double beep when you hear this let go, you will need to plug you pad in with the usb cable to continue.

Ok, if it is simply the image that is freezing and it is still staying on then there is hope for the PS3.
If however it is turning off with 3 beeps and flashing the red light then that is serious.
Please try the following if it is just the display freezing :
Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later and then beep one more time and turn off into standby mode (red light on)
Release the power button
Press and hold the power button again. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later and this time there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 quick beeps.
The PS3 will start up asking you to connect the controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then continue.
After doing the above a menu will load with 6 options. Choose option 3 "Restore File System". This will re-install the PS3 software if it has become corrupt. Ignore any messages about corrupt hard drive, this is normal. If this step does not work try the above again but select option 4, then 5 if that doesn't work.
One of these options should get your PS3 up and running again.
Ok, follow these steps to fix your PS3, unfortunately you will lose your save game data!!
Step 1. Turn your PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off. Release the power button.
Step 3. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, beep 5 seconds later and then there will be 2 quick beeps together. Release the power button when you hear these 2 beeps.
Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to connect a controller via USB and press the PS button. Do this and then go onto the next step.
Step 5. A menu will load. Select option 5 "Restore PS3 system". The console will ask you if you are sure, just accept and then the PS3 will restart. All the original software will be loaded and you will need to enter the date and time and other details.
When you have done all this your PS3 should be fully working again.
This could be any of a number of problems try these solutions one of
which may work. If they all fail to work you can contact sony directly

Remove any obstructions from the vents.
Allow at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides for the PLAYSTATION 3.
Remove the PLAYSTATION 3 from any cabinets so it is out in the open.
Shut the PLAYSTATION 3 down completely and let it cool down to room temperature, then try running it again.
If the fan cannot be heard before the system shut down, the PLAYSTATION 3 may need to be sent in for service.
If there is no airflow from any of the vents, the system may need to be sent in for service
