HI, if you are getting a yellow light during this ordeal, i would suggest purchasing a mini cooler for this unit. it is overheating at this time. this will destroy your power unit soon. If you are getting the red light at this time, the power board may be already damaged.

In this case, contact Sony for a power unit replacement procedure.

You have the infamous YLOD, aka. Yellow Light of Death. This is the number 1 cause of pS3's dying. It is an overheating issue linked to your CPU and GPU (the processor chips) You will need to find a local PS3 repair shop who can repair this. Do not try to attempt repairs seen on the internet yourself. You could make things much worse and render the unit totally unresponsive. The repair process takes about 3 hours.

Playstation 3 (PS3) Console: i had a power cut whilst playing ps3 , now it wont...

First thing to try is a video reset.

While the PS3 if off (red light solid) hold down the power button until you hear the SECOND beep, quickly release.

Let me know if this works, otherwise we'll try step 2.

Ps3 will not play

Sounds to me like your hardware is faulty and needs to be replaced. Check us.sony.com/support and see about their warranty assurance. If you still fall under their warranty, they will gladly replace the system.
