Question about Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Computer with Intel Duo Core 15.4 Inch PC Notebook

IMac won't recognize my external speakers

My wife has a 6 month old iMac. It no longer recognizes any external speakers. I've tried three different sets, so it's not the speakers. The internal speakers work fine. Coincidentally my house was recently hit by a lightening strike which knocked out the ethernet port on my Mac Pro. That computer was in a different room connected to a surge protector and powered by a different outlet. I was wondering if my sound card's the culprit or it's a problem with the operating system after my most recent OS upgrade. The machine is running Leopart 10.5.7.

I had the same problem..... turns out that there is a specific order that you need to plug them in. Disconnect your speakers from usb and from power. Then plug in the Power first. Then plug in the usb connection. They should show up in your sound control panel now.

Well the only way to find out is buy a new sound card but if you dont want to spend any money as long as you have a back up of your hard drive you can do a fresh install of leopard but make sure you back it up on something or you will lose your data. if you have any questions you can email me at jadenb333@gmail,com

SOURCE: screen goes white, flashing a folder with a question mark

The flashing folder means that the computer can't find the boot system on the hard drive. If your girlfriend's step-dad has removed some parts of the OS, then the system will not start giving the 'flashing folder' result. You will need to re-install the OS from the system disk.
Insert the disk into the computer and it will boot from that and take you through the install procedure.

SOURCE: Lost install disk for Mac book pro My 13" Mac book

You will need some install disks to even begin working on your issue.
Your options:

  • Find someone with the same model MacBook Pro and borrow the disks.
  • Buy a copy of Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6) and use them. If you are going to buy a set you might as well update to Snow Leopard (10.6)
  • Check eBay for install disks but make sure they are for the same model MacBook Pro.
  • Contact an Apple service center and purchase a replacement set of install disks.
Once you have a install CD, I would recommend backing up your system by making a disk image of the hard drive to an external drive. Then doing a clean install and then using the Migration Assistant to restore your user files to the clean install on your hard drive.

The drive has probably gone, but what I would try is make sure that it is not a cabling or port problem. First try the cable that you have been using in another usb device (one that you know works) and see if that works, that will prove that the cable is functioning properly. If that does not work try the cable in one of your other usb ports. If you are funning it as a firewire device do the same with firewire as above. If these work then it is more than likely the hard drive is gone.

If the drive is under three years old as far as I can see the G-Tech external hard drives are covered with a three year warranty see http://g-technology.com/products/g-drive.cfm get in touch with the manufacturer and claim under their warranty.

Hope this helps.

IMac won't recognize firelite external disk

Try to connect it to another computer (Mac or PC).

Disasemble the case, and remove the disk-drive.
Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" in some other desktop computer, and see if the drive is "detected", and if your files/directories are visible.

My MX1100 cordless mouse no longer recognized

It sounds like the Drivers for the Mouse aren't be installed. Since it is a wireless mouse and receiver it will need separate drivers to function properly. If it came with a CD I would try re-installing any software that came on the disc. If not (I'm assuming its a Logitech Mouse here) I would visit the Logitech website (www.logitech.com) and see if you can locate Drivers there.

Toshiba 160 GB Hard drive is not seen by 'new' computer

I have had a similar problems with external drives that only plug into a USB port (no ext power adapter). It is very common that the power supply fed through the USB port is inadequate to power an external hard drive. Some enclosures have a external A/C input to resolve this. Also, some computers (motherboards) only have a select number of USB ports that are powered. Since this device is detected by your other computer and not on the new one, my next attempt would be to locate a USB hub with external A/C power. There is a good chance that this will resolve the problem. By the way, when you plug in the drive does it spin up?
