Question about Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera

Photo screen problems

When I turn on my camera, instead of being able to view what is in the viewfinder, the back screen is mainly dark with a few white/pink horizontal streaks...they move about, and sometimes are not there at all - just black. Do you know what's going on? It worked fine recently.

I have had my camera (Canon A70) for 4 years and several weeks ago, I had the problem with the screen going black or rose colored lines. I have now contacted Canon 3 times- once by phone and twice by e-mail. They are very nice BUT the e-mails with the forms and the shipping label have yet to come! (supposed to be within 24-48 hours) Any advice????? thanks

My has started doing the same thing; one second the images were fine, and then straight lines started appearing on the pictures, and eventually the pictures went dark with the streaking still there.

Hi I have had my camera for 5years just last week, i was going to take a pic of my daughter on her birthday and all i could see on the veiw screen after turning the unit on was a dark screen. I've done all the things that the manual asks to do in a situation like this but none worked.

My screen is black with blurred horizontal lines, almost like it's night and something with lights is moving very fast. The picture looks the same.

The LCD monitor on my PowerShot A70 displays a black/pink purple moving color, it does not display what I see in the viewfinder, and it will not take a photo of what I have focused in the viewfinder. The camera does not take a photo, it clicks, the flash seems rather slow, the photo is purplish black with no image. Once in awhile the monitor will kick on and I can take a photo. The batteries are OK, I have held the menu key down for 5 seconds and gone back to factory setting - still doesn't show an image.

YES YES YES Go to the Canon Website and search for 'CCD' .
I went to take a picture and my viewscreen looked as if I was taking a picture in the dark, there was activity on the screen but no picture. To confirm the condition take a picture, if the picture preview resembles the viewscreen, both black then that is the condition they will repair. My camera was a five year A70 and they had no problem to repair.
My last picture prior to the condition looked like a really bad video stillshot poor colour with low resolution.

Cheers

Go to Canon website. There is a known defect with the sensor in the A70, and will be fixed _regardless of warranty_ if your camera's problem is related.

is it only the view finder or does it appear on the photo as well because if it the view finder then it is the screen and if it is on the photo as well then its most likely the lense and once you have deterined this then you can know if it is just dirty or if the screen needs replacing

CANON SD1000 VIEWFINDER SCREEN WON'T COME ON

Do you have the user's manual? There should be a menu option to turn 'live-view' on and off. This option is to save battery power when not needed (if using the viewfinder only).

Click the "disp" button. The display of the camera has been turned off in the LCD screen but you can still use the viewfinder, this functionality is just for those who prefer to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen.

I think there is a small button on the back of the camera near the bottom that turns the viewfinder off and on I think. It should be in the manual.
It might have gotten bumped while in the bag.

The Digital Rebel XT operates as SLRs have operated for half a century. You view through the viewfinder to take a picture. Only the more recent dSLRs have a Live View capability which lets you use the screen on the back instead of the viewfinder.

The D40 works the same way SLRs have worked for the past half century. Only recently have dSLRs acquired a "Live-View" capability, where you see the image on the LCD monitor instead of through the viewfinder.

I realize this probably wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way it is.

When the camera is turned on view window is not lit up viewing is dark and grey hard to focus but still takes a good picture?

Do you mean the viewfinder or the lcd-screen?
The Nikon D80 does not have a 'live-view' mode to watch the picture you're about to take on the LCD-screen. It's a semi-professional camera not to be used like a standard 'point-and-shoot' digital camera.
If it is the viewfinder that's out of focus, try adjusting the dial to the right of the viewfinder. It might also be that your internal mirror doesn't get powered (in this case you're unable to see the focus areas). In the last case you will have to get the camera serviced by Nikon.

Olympus E520 digital slr. Only auto setting is working? On other settings, live-view goes dark(?).

SLR cameras are meant to be used with the viewfinder, not live view. Live View on SLR's is a luxury that point and shoot users have come to expect, sadly. I suggest you start using the viewfinder and disregard the live view altogether, since it doesn't always give you an accurate representation of what the photo will turn out like, and it consumes battery power at a ridiculous rate.
