Question about Raymarine C70 GPS Receiver

2 Answers

Ear Sirs, I have problem to get a GPS fix on my Raymarine C70, I have a Raystar 125 which is connected through E85001 interface, The first time I connected the deviced together it works, and I got NMEA0183 data to my VHF as well, but the second time I switch the C70 on, it doesn't work. The LED at Raystar 125 flashes every 4th second. In the E85001 box redand green ar connected together, and brown and black are connected together, (I have tried without the brown as well) I have also tried to connect it directly without the E85001 box, but still no fix. When I check the C70 I see it receicing data on seatalk2, which is not connected .. but on seatalk there is no receiving data. In the E85001 box the Raytech LED is on, the two others, Seatalk and NMEA is dark. When I check my Raymarine C70, i see Seatalk2 receive frames, but Seatalk2 is not connected..... and seatalk is not receiving anything, just errors I feel there is some wrong settings in my C70? Could you please help? Kind regards Arne Solberg

    Hi,
There is nothing wrong with the settings, I called a Swedish technician, and after a 10-15 min tel. support the problem was solved, a shortening in the seatalk cable.
And the Swedish guys did not charge me,
Here the problem was not solved, but I still got charged :-(

Hi Arne,

What I understand is you might not have gone through the user manual for C70 as its clearly mentioned about the settings. Once when you have it set up correct then we can come to troubleshooting mode whether something is wron or not.

I would therefore request you to take out some time and go through the manual first and then try connecting or setting it up.

From page 4 of the owners manual (link below), there are a couple of ways the cables could be connected depending on which setup you have.

Hope this helps.

Hi I have a raymarine c120,dose the hiden electronic compass have a reset button, when following a track on screen im am traveling sideways or a stern,,,do I need a new one or reset,??

Do you have the display configured for "heading up"? If it's "north up" then the map orientation will be fixed and your heading will change. Look at the softkeys under "presentation". The C120 doesn't have a hidden electronic compass; it uses the heading from the GPS (which will wander around when you are stopped). If you have a Raymarine autopilot it will provide compass heading to the C120.

Before you buy a new one if that is a raytheon raystar unit there is a lithium battery inside the unit check that first thats all you may have to replace.

We lose fix info. on the c120and the Auto pilot has no display. The problem is intermittent

This sounds like a problem with the receiver. If you can not get GPS fix (sometimes) you will have to start looking at the GPS antenna and cable. If the unit is new check out the location of the antenna. As with anything that works with satellites it need a clear view of the sky to fix onto the "birds". A GPS connects to numerous "birds" at a time, so ensure that the antenna has a wide angle view of the sky. If it is old you will have to start looking for connection problems. This is usually the case when the fault is intermittent. Check for possible water damage and loose or less than adequate connections. Also ensure the cable is in a good condition.

My Raystar 120 GPS keeps losing its fix.... the fix comes b ack a few minutes later, but then i lose it again. I have tried a cold restart, but the problem persists. Ideas?

Guys, most likely the litium battery is eol. Buy a new litium 3 volts battery for 3-4 euro's with soldering points . Use a pair of scissors, note the plus and minus side of the poles and carefully cut out the battery leaving enough metal to solder a replacement battery. Solder the replacement battery, and the problem is fixed. You're ready for another 6 years of fun saving 300 USD for a new GPS!

I've had the same problem. before replacing the antenna, try to reset the antenna by removing power to the Raystar 120. Disconnect power by either turning off all batteries or disconnecting the red wire from the antenna at the point where it enters the junction box for the chartplotter. This action effectively removes all memory from the antenna and resets it to factory settings. There is a lithianium battery in GPS antenna that holds memory data in the antenna. Disconnecting the power to the antenna for a few seconds clears the memory.

This is exactly what I did and when I turned the chartplotter back on, my Raystar 120 immediately began working again.

Raymarine Raychart 520 Interface to PC

you will need to hook up direct. Seatalk wont handle a waypoint download, but the chartplotter will accept the data directly into the NMEA in port. All other data, like wind depth and latlon are handled by seatalk
