I have the window fan and we just got it and it is not running, there is a fuse on the power cord that wasn't there with our last model-do we need a new fuse? If so, where can they be purchased?

make sure there is power going through your plugin if there is it seems like that would be the cause you can pick these up at home hardware or lowes, good luck

My fan is not rotating when I connected to plug. There is no burning smell or anything. How can I fix the problem? Thanks in advance

Hello.

I have a Holmes pedestal fan that does this every few years. I have had this fan for about 10 years.

Unplug the fan and remove the fan blade guard. The fan blade should spin easily when you tap the edge of the fan blades with your finger. If the blade barely moves and abruptly stops, the bearings are dirty and need to be cleaned and oiled with 10W non-detergent motor oil. A quick-fix is a tiny bit of WD-40 where the motor shaft (the rod that the fan blade is mounted on) meets the bearing (the part of the motor that the shaft spins on). To properly fix this, you must oil both the front and back motor bearings which requires removal of the motor housing.

If the fan blade spins easily and you are certain that the fan is getting power (try a different outlet) the motor may be bad. Likewise, if the fan blade will not move at all. I do not know if Holmes sells motors for these fans. Here is their online support website:

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

P.S.: Never turn a motor-operated appliance on for more than a second if you know it's not working. That will cook the motor windings.

Fan is only 8 months old and will not power on... Help

The switch is the most likely part to fail, and will have to be taken apart to be checked. If the switch is good, the fan motor could be bad, in which case it's just better to buy a new one.
If you're mechanically inclined, and can use a voltmeter, you can toubleshoot the unit, but you will have to disassemble it to get to the supply lines.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Our fan's blade will barely turn. Can it be fixed?

"Our fan\'s blade will barely turn. Can it be fixed?"

Of course. Usually the front bearing gets dry and gummy. The fan may run after the armature is warm, but it fails to start when it's cold.

Unplug the fan first, right? Then lay the fan flat.
If you can get access to the shaft near the front bearing, just put a few drops of sewing machine oil on the shaft. Let it sit a while, then put the fan in its normal operating position, plug it in and turn it on.

If you can't get close to that area, you'll need to take the grill off, and remove the blades. Then lay the fan flat and squirt some sewing machine oil on the shaft near the front bearing.
The rear bearing is usually OK, while the front one seems to get dry and gummed up.

With the fan flat, run the motor on and off until it starts spinning freely.
Then replace the blades and the grill.

Failing all this, you might find some retired old timer who still does this type of work.

Fan does not osculate all the way. The fan sticks then there is the clicking sound.

The worm hear or drive gear that are mainly made of plastic has stripped out. Just don't use the revolving ossulator option any longer

We have two holmes fans and they both stopped working within the same week, we replaced the batteries and nothing and we tried to manually start them and nothing; any ideas>

mcdevito75 here, You say you changed the batteries in both fans, tried to spin the blades and no start., Double check battery install, try another set of batteries even new batteries from the store can be weak or even dead as batteries have shelf life of, not too long. Spin the fan blades as fast but as safe as possible by hand with the on /off switch off, and listen for any noise from the fan motor, a sraping sound, or whistle could mean a bad motor. Lastly, bring the fans to a Staples, they will be glad to test them, a Radio Shack also can test the fan motors.
