Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a GE Dryer Serial #GL228541G Model DD25310 BAC WH. I am trying to replace the belt around the drum. I tried hooking the belt around the hooks to tighten the belt, but the drum is not turning.

Does the motor run? The path of the belt is a little tricky. You have to push a loop of the belt around the belt tightener and then over the motor pulley. The top of the belt loop will ride against either a rolling wheel, or a plastic guide made out of low friction plastic. The bottom of the loop of belt should only go over to the drum. The tensioner is held in place by a tab that fits into the bottom pan of the dryer.

Are you sure that you hooked the belt up correctly, as it sounds like you may have missed the tensioner pulley. As this will tighten the belt around the middle of the drum

Belt repalcement proceedure

Pop the top, (use a screw driver) remove the front ... remove the drum ... clean the interior ... notice how the tensioner pulley works as you disassemble the machine. It does hook into the slots on the floor and the new belt will pull through the teensioner and around the motor pulley.

HOW TO INSTALL BELT FOR GE DRYER OR WHAT THE DIAGRAM FOR BELT FOR GE DRYER

Take the top off. There will be 2 screws on each side where the front is hooked to the body. Unscrew them. The whole front comes loose along with the drum. Put the belt around the roller and under the roller support, then around the drum. Was easier then you thought huh.

Drum belt assembly

take the belt and put it around the drum with the grooves touching the drum, then push a loop of the belt thru the idler pulley bracket and hook it onto the motor pulley. then the idler pulley and bracket will cause tension on the belt. if you need to see a picture then search your model number on google and it should show you a picture of how the belt goes around the motor.
by the way you dont have a good model number, or it is too new to be in most web sites.

Drier Belt Replacement on GE model DDG7580

Open the door and remove four screws which go into the dryer top. Swing top back. Take out the screw on each side holding the dryer front to the side panels near the open top. Tilt the dryer front forward and lift it off the bottom pegs, then swing it to the side. Leave door switch wires connected. Lift up slightly on drum to allow the belt to be placed around drum. (grooves of WE12X82 belt touch the drum) Belt goes down from the left side of the dryer directly to the grooved motor pulley, then around the belt tensioning pulley and back to the drum. Your model has a removable panel at the bottom side of the back which will allow easy access to the motor pulley area.

GE Gas Dryer Replace the belt Model # DDG8280G

Usually there are one or two panel in the front that are held by some screws. Once removed the top panel is usually attached to the front panel and you can get a screwdriver and release the plastic push in retainers. Prop the top up and the drum is exposed. The belt usually goes around the drum down to a drive pulley on the bottom of the machine. You will need to route the belt around the drum in the front or back to get it routed correctly.
