Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Laundry soap Residue

I have the same problem of laundry soap residue remaining on my clothes. My Kenmore 80 series is 5 years old and this problem just started about 3 months ago. I tried the solutions in the book, cleaning/rinsing the system with vinegar, reducing the amount in the load and I even switched brands of soap from Tide to Sunlight. Nothing seems to work.
Is there another solution?

As a last resort add about 200grams of washing soda crystals to the drum before you start the wash.

I have a Kenmore series 600 washer which leaves white residue on laundry. I've tried using less detergent (only use liquid detergent) but it still happens. Using Tide detergent.

There are a lot of causes for that issue. Overloading, too much softener, bad drain pump, dirty drum, hard water are some of the more common ones.

Is it acceptable, & obain better results with a liquid laundry soap as opposed to a powder. Specificall the new Whisk with spot removers.

Every brand will tell you , they are better, but it's up to you to decide which you like more.

There is somthing to be said for powder. It provides a firm substance to "beat" the clothes against. Yes, same as beating them on a rock but with detergant and enzymes added to break down oils and proteins.
Of course, there is always a residual dust (if you will) of the peanut shell powder base. remaining in the clothing fibers.

Liquids detergent leaves less residue behind but lacks the solidity of the peanut shells, therefore depends on it's ability desolve dirt etc often more effeciently than powders.

You need to try different brands and types on your own "normal" wash loads, and decide which result you like better. Of course detergents and enyme chemistry has improved a good deal in last few years.

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II, top loading washer. Upon intial start up the machine agitates. During the spin cycle, the cold water remains ON, throughout the cycle. This is leaving the clothes wet...

The timer is at fault.
During the spin cycle the timer should send intermittent power to the water valve. This activates cold to help rinse soap residue from the laundry.
If cold is continuous it means the timer is not breaking correctly.

Residue on clothes

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside wher you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.

Here is a response I recently gave to a person posting a similar problem. You do not state your model number, so: If you have a tub clean cycle, use that, if not, use the longest, hottest cycle with no clothes and a front load washer cleaner like Ahfresh, Washer Cleaner, SmellyWasher Cleaner, Tide front load washer cleaner, or Whilaway hot tub cleaner. Clean the tub gasket area by the door and remove the filter and clean it out also before you run the clean cycle. You may have to run the cycle with a cleaner twice to remove all the built up soap scum inside the washer. Now, after the washer is clean, USE ONLY ONE TO A MAXIMUM OF TWO TABLESPOONS OF HE LAUNDRY DETERGENT PER CYCLE !!!! (and no more than one teaspoon of fabric softener per cycle, if you use it)

You could check out http://www.smellywasher.com/ for one possiblity. The big thing is that these machines use very little water, and many of the newer soaps are 2x or 3x concentrated, so you have to use very little soap. (much much less than the soap manufacturers suggest) in order to rinse all the soap residue out of the clothes and prevent it from builing up in your washer and causing odors. (oh, by the way, that one cleaner I listed as Washer Cleaner is actually " Washer Magic ") 73b1c2a.jpg fb3071a.jpg

  3. Check pump for blockages
  4. Check for build up of soap in the outer tub
  5. Check for article of clothing stuck in the outer tub
please rate my suggestion...

Kenmore 80 series washer leaves soap residue on clothes no matter

After speaking with someone with trouble shooting experience in these matters, I now believe the problem lies NOT with the washer but with a bad batch of laundry detergent which fails to dissolve properly in the water.

suspect sand/rust has gotten past screens inside water valve or screens are missing allowing residue to get into valve ..replace valve ..clean screens as needed in future but be sure to reinstall

We had the same problem- for us it was because we were mixing laundry booster (Oxyclean) with liquid soap in the dispenser. It seems the water running through the tray had insufficient pressure to properly flush the tray out, so residue accumulated on the back & underside of the tray. Our water pressure is good here, and we don't use a water softener or filters that can reduce the pressure. Unfortunately it seems to just be a bad design of the soap dispenser tray.

We also had a problem with water/bleach leaking from our soap dispenser- when we used the bleach compartment in the dispenser we got leaks dripping onto the floor from behind the front cover of the washing machine. It was running down the front of the washer behind the front cover & coming out onto the floor. The repair guy said this was because the dispenser tray was pulled out too far, but the reason we were pulling the soap tray out so far was because the bleach compartment was too far back in the tray to use if we didn't. Now we just leave the drawer partially closed & pour the bleach directly into the soap compartment along with the soap.

Black marks on clothing at completion of drying cycle

Is the residue coming from the back or front of the drum? Most dryers are equipped with 2 drum roller supports in the rear under the drum. You may have a drum roller that is going bad and some of the rubber residue is getting past the drum seal. Some dryers are quipped with an additional pair of drum rollers under the front of the drum as well. I would check all the drum rollers to see if they are all in good shape. A definite symptom of a bad drum roller is finding black residue along the outside of the drum where the rollers ride. You will have to open the dryer cabinet to see the outside of the drum. Also, check the rear drum seal to make sure it is not crimped or folded inwards in the drum. The felt seal in the back should should ride evenly all the way around the drum and should not be that visible inside the drum itself. That is, you may see some of the seal, but you shouldn't see part of it folded inside the drum or bits of it tattered or torn. I hope this makes sense to you. Let me know if this helps.
