Question about Samsung RS2630SH Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezer light flashing

My Samsung RS2630 wont cool on the refrigerator side earlier. I left both the doors open to let the built ice melt. I turned it on after few hours, the light inside fridge is on but I dont see the motor running. Also I see the Freezer light flashing outside on the control panel on door. Any help I could use? Not able to afford technician. Thanks.

Thx. But does the continuous flashing of the freezer light say something? The light in the fridge is on but I don't hear the compressor working. Its just stuck and not cold both sides at all.

  • mike2call Jun 24, 2009

Thx indeed. I opened the back panel. Dont hear anything working. Just ended up cleaning the lint and picking up water from tray. The fan next to compressor is clean. I have already cleaned up little ice from the freezer coils. There was almost no ice. All I see now is the freezer light still flashing, inside lights on but no cooling no usual motor sound. Compressor was little hot as it was running 6 hours ago when I left both the doors open. waiting for more directions..thx

At this time I hear no compressor or fan running. Just a light under freezer on control panel on the door flashing continuously. Opened back panel but all I could do was remove lint and water. No other movement. There is a panel box with a motherboard like connections behind the fridge. Dont understand that part. Samsung forces its own technicians and also wont sell its parts to other mechanics. I feel trapped with this brand.

If you have ice built up on rear wall of freezer section then your unit is not going through defrost cycle which builds up frost on evaporator and restricts cold air flow over to the fresh food side.

when the temp in the freezer reaches a temp below 8 degrees the light will go off. if im understanding you on which light then its a temp warning light. you need to turn the unit on and remove rear panel on the back of the refrigerator to see if the compressor is actually running. let me know

  • kenrick driscoll Jun 24, 2009

if compressor is running and your still not cooling then its very possible you have a restriction. you said you have little to no frost a evap. coils. that leads me to believe that your sealed system is restricted. you have to replace compressor, drier and evaporator.

Freezer is all frozen

One solution:
This can happen if door has been left open. To solve:

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

My kenmore side-by-side refrigerator is less than 4-years old. freezer works but refrigerator stde does not get cold. ice accumulates on lower vent in refrigerator.

all it does is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and returns through the bottom air vent,so if there's ice there most likely one of the doors was left open, check the freezer for frozen water droplets on packages or on the walls and shelves of the machine,if you don't see that open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor.if the fan is blowing in the freezer from the bottom remove the second draw or bin and put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater, timer or board depending on what model you have,if the fan is blowing and you don't see any problems that i talked about you could have a bad damper,on some machines there's a damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the fridge section,if it's bad it won't open and no cold air can blow in from the freezer,if you think the door was left open, remove anything that's in the way,in the freezer side and the fridge side, shut the machine down or unplug it and with a hair dryer melt out the ice, don't keep the heat in one place for to long, you can melt the vent if it's plastic or styrofoam, after you think it's melted out start the machine and put your hand up in the left hand corner in the fridge section and see if you can feel any cold air blowing in,there could be ice up there too, next time send the model number so i can look up your model,on a side by side you'll find the tag on the right hand side wall in the fridge up near the ceiling or on the ceiling near the light.hope this helps,if you have another fridge you could move the food and just shut the fridge down with the doors open and let it melt out on it's own overnight.good luck

Freezer is cool but ice is melting. fridge is starting to warm up. we adjusted the temp controls but did not help.

Somewow the door was left slightly open. Do a total 12 hour defrost and once all ice has gone, restart. (Remember 12 hours.ice sits in the insulation and problem wont go if not properly defrosted.

My son left fridge door open, from 1-2 hours. it doesn't seem to be cooling now. Is there a problem or does it take a while for condensor to come back on?

What has happened is that the evaporator (the cooling coils inside the freezer) have frosted up due to all the moist air which entered the refrig with the door open. This frost has blocked the normal flow of air within the refrigerator/ freezer. Turn unit off, unload freezer, and leave freezer door open for several hours to allow built up frost to melt. Better yet, remove the panel at the back of the freezer and melt the frost off with a hair blower.

Samsung fridge RS2630, icing up on freezer and fridge not cooling

Could be the defrost element. If it does not work and melt the ice off of the evaporator, icing will continue and serve as an insulator. Freezer and refrigerator temps will suffer.
If you unplug the unit and let it defrost for a day and plug back in it will work fine till it freezes up again.
