The lights are green, all three light up at the same time and within 5 seconds they disappear, but the light on the motherboard that indicates that the battery is charging works perfect.

Open the cover. Put out the RAM and insert again. Do the same with Processor. Recheck all the outer connections. It may solve the problem. (

Dell Latitude D500 won't switch on. Lights come on for about 10 seconds then automatically switch off. Plugged into mains and battery charging light is on.

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

My Dell latitude d500 won't recover from standby mode (i.e. after shutting the lid).

The little button on the laptop pushes down when you close the lid and is probably stuck down. Open the laptop and look at the area near the hinges foe a tiny gray pop up button. If it is stuck down you will need to try pulling it up with tweezers. Mine is above the power button on a D800. Here is your manual !

Let me know how you make out!

Good luck Phil

Dell latitude d500 wont charge.

If the original batteryand the system works on AC power, then replace the battery.

If the battery has been replaced, then it could be a motherboard charger failure

Audio do not play

Unplug speaker connection. Go to Control Panel, double-click on "Sounds and Audio Devices" and on "Volume" tab make sure "mute" is not checked and that volume is sufficiently up there. If thats ok select "Sounds" tab and go to "Program events", select any Windows sounds and check to see if you can hear the sound by clicking on the arrow next to it. If you can hear sound its ok so then check your speakers connection to correct sound output jack and that external speaker is powered on.

Dell D500 not starting

It's unfotunate that you don't have the info from the blue screen, this would help tremendously. The blinking light is actually a code, a certain light will blink a certain number of times for a specific code. Go to Dell's support site and find the light codes for your machine, this will help in narrowing down the problem area. I believe you're going to need the tools to remove the covers, so you might think to pick them up. A majority of the time this type of problem is either with the memory or the hard drive. Start with the codes list, and gofrom there. If you need any help, just ask.

Dell D500 Latitude- Does not turn on

Maybe the battery has locked the process. Take out the battery for about 5 minutes. Then insert it back in and plug in the power cord. Turn it back on and see if that works.
