Cant burn DVD-s

for some unknown reason my cd/dvd rewriter burner (Matshita BD-CMB UJ-120 ATA device) will not burn DVD-s (input/output error). I am using a Sony Vaio VGN-AR51J laptop running on Vista Ultimate. It was working fine 15 days ago.
