The camera has worked great for us for years, however, when I recently tried to show my kiddos some baby videos, there is a clicking sound which interferes with the audio as in it skips and we aren't even able to listen to it. The video is fine, it's the audio which is clicking and skipping. Please tell me there is a simple fix or easy way to trouble shoot? I tried multiple tapes in case it was the one tape, but it does it with every one. Thanks!
SOURCE: GR-D72 Mini DV Digital Camcorder makes clicking sound when tape running
the clicking is from the capstain turning the tape -- and perhaps the metal cage holding the tape.. if it is bent then the movement of the capstain may be pushing it in an eccentric fashion.
send it in for repair.

All you have to do, is make sure your computer has a FireWire card in it, and get a cable and hook it up it will automaticalty reconize the device and open up windows movie maker.

gidley,
Hey that is a classic video camera, very cool, one of the first to have PC connectivity, one of the first to use a firewire connection (fast) to a PC, all that in mind the little docking station that came with it should have video (RCA) type plugs on it that would match up to most TV's and VCR's (if you still have one) DVD players, you can play back your movies. It has the ability to store analog to digital onto your computer - if you have a DVD burner on your PC you can make DVD's out of those old movies with your kids, that would be the way to go. I'll dig around to see if one of my sources still has his manual for this camera. I'll check back with you within the next day.

Hi tlaufer ,
According to the symptom this problem is related to the VIDEO HEAD, As you earlier try to clean the head but no results, Please open the cassette compartment of your camera (as when you insert the cassette in it) for 30 mins (remains open cassette compartment) Actueally some time due to moisture head get durt.
After 30 mins insert the cassette and play it. Hope it will start work again fine.
But if no result from the said procedure then there must be a damadge of point of the head, in this condition you have to replace the VIDEO HEAD assembly.
Thanks for using fixya.
This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.
