Is there a simple fix to clicking sound w/audio when playing video?

The camera has worked great for us for years, however, when I recently tried to show my kiddos some baby videos, there is a clicking sound which interferes with the audio as in it skips and we aren't even able to listen to it. The video is fine, it's the audio which is clicking and skipping. Please tell me there is a simple fix or easy way to trouble shoot? I tried multiple tapes in case it was the one tape, but it does it with every one. Thanks!

SOURCE: GR-D72 Mini DV Digital Camcorder makes clicking sound when tape running

the clicking is from the capstain turning the tape -- and perhaps the metal cage holding the tape.. if it is bent then the movement of the capstain may be pushing it in an eccentric fashion.

send it in for repair.

All you have to do, is make sure your computer has a FireWire card in it, and get a cable and hook it up it will automaticalty reconize the device and open up windows movie maker.

SOURCE: How do I connect my digital camera to the TV so I can playback.

gidley,
Hey that is a classic video camera, very cool, one of the first to have PC connectivity, one of the first to use a firewire connection (fast) to a PC, all that in mind the little docking station that came with it should have video (RCA) type plugs on it that would match up to most TV's and VCR's (if you still have one) DVD players, you can play back your movies. It has the ability to store analog to digital onto your computer - if you have a DVD burner on your PC you can make DVD's out of those old movies with your kids, that would be the way to go. I'll dig around to see if one of my sources still has his manual for this camera. I'll check back with you within the next day.

SOURCE: Bands or lines on screen during playback

Hi tlaufer ,
According to the symptom this problem is related to the VIDEO HEAD, As you earlier try to clean the head but no results, Please open the cassette compartment of your camera (as when you insert the cassette in it) for 30 mins (remains open cassette compartment) Actueally some time due to moisture head get durt.
After 30 mins insert the cassette and play it. Hope it will start work again fine.
But if no result from the said procedure then there must be a damadge of point of the head, in this condition you have to replace the VIDEO HEAD assembly.
Thanks for using fixya.

Hi

You do not say which operating system you are using. My answer can therefore only be general rather than specific to your operating system.

The Video Camera you tried to install probably has an in-built microphone. Connecting this is may have changed the default settings for your audio devices.

You have a number of options for fixing this problem.

SYSTEM RESTORE
Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Restore my computer to an earlier time > selected a highlighted date in the calendar and an Event in the schedule before the date you tried to install the video camera > restore > restart the computer (you should hear the windows logon on tones if you are using a windows operating system) > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

AUDIO SETTINGS
Start > Control Panel > Audio devices > Audio (Playback Devices) > Set Defaults (set the Speakers to be the Default Playback devices > apply > ok > restatrt computer > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

AUDIO/SOUND DRIVERS
Reinstalling the Audio/Sound Drivers would also probably resolve the problem by restoring your Default Audio settings, if you have the Driver CD for your Laptop or Desktop Motherboard > install Audio/Sound Driver > restart computer > (My) Music > Sample Music > double click on any track to test the sound playback.

I cannot direct you to a driver download site, because you have given no information about your computer.

Using my ultra flip camera: when I playback my videos on my computer the images are choppy, jumpy or in slow motion while the audio is fine. what can i do?

Two possible Solutions

1) Have you transferred the videos off your flip, and on to your computers hard drive?

USB ports have greatly increased in speed in the last few years but they can still have trouble playing "live" video directly from the camera.

Solution: Plug in your flip. Drag the files to your "desktop" or "my documents" or any other place you like to store them. Play the files from there.

2)Does the video playback ok on your flip? Or on a different computer?

If so the solution is simple, but expensive. Your computer does not have enough processing power/ memory to play back the video. Full uncompressed video is a very large file and most computers older than 2 years have trouble rendering the video frames fast enough. The HD we see on sites like youtube and even on Blu-ray have been compressed. When the files come off the camera they are not compressed and require alot of computing power.

Solution: Buy a new computer. Sorry I know it is an expensive fix. The good news you don't need anything too fancy. A laptop with a 2+ Ghz (gigahertz) processor and 3+ GB of memory, will do the trick and cost between $300-$500.

Hope that helped

Hey, Ive had a Sony hi8 digital handycam for about 7 years that has worked great and still appears to do everything except that when you play the tape, the LCD stays blue. The tape moves, fast forwards,...

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

No Sound When Recording

Video camera has built in microphone which is on at all time until you plug in different type of mic then camera is switched to new mic. Audio problem may be on audio head or circuit problem. You can test the system by playing pre-recorded tape to see if it play with the sound and go from there. If it play but does not record sound, you have audio recording problem. If it does not play, I would clean the video head and audio head area good. -James For further assistance, request help at www.camerarepairjapan.com
