Replacement cord kits are available in home improvement stores. If the screen cover is pop riveted on you'll need to get replacement pop rivets and a tool to install them. Otherwise, remove the bolts holding it in place and remove the screen. Unwind the broken cord, paying attention as to the direction of the wind. Replace the cord and attach it to the one-way clutch. Don't forget to put the new cord thru the hole in the screen before attaching it to the clutch. Now wind the clutch so the spring starts to pull the cord into the clutch. Pull on the cord to see if it's operating correctly. Once you're satisfied, go ahead and reinstall the screen on the engine.
Hi James:
Replacing any starter cord is usually a matter of removing the pull start assembly, pulling the cord until it is completely unwound, block the reel so it cannot retract, remove the old cord, (remember EXACTLY how it was connected), install a new cord, unblock the reel so it can retract, re-install the assembly.
It may be necessary to remove covers or engine shrouds to get to the pull start assembly. That's part of the fun of "do-it-yourself".
Cheers..
the way i done this was drilling out the rivets, replacing the cord and putting new rivets back in.if you dont have new rivets or the tool to put them in with you can use self tapping screws instead. i hope this helps you out?
1
Locate the red button on the top of the handlebars. This is
called the "kill switch." When you pull it up the engine can run; when
you push it down, the engine will shut off immediately.
2
Pull the kill switch up.
3
Turn the key to the "on" position.
4
Make certain the cord running from the key is attached to
the steering column. This device acts in the same manner as the kill
switch - the engine will run only when it is secured.
5
Pull the start cord, which looks like an enlarged lawnmower pull-cord and is generally found on the right side of the machine.
6
Listen to the engine - if it starts, let it get going slowly
. If it "pops" but does not continue to run, try pulling the start cord
a few more times. If you do not hear the engine turn over at all,
proceed to the next step.
7
Find the pull tab under the right side of the handlebars.
This is called the choke - it often has a circle with a diagonal line
through it. The choke helps to start an engine when the weather is very
cold or the machine hasn't been used in a while. When using the choke,
try leaving it on only long enough to hear the engine fire a couple
times, then return it to the "off" position. A choke left on too long
can flood the engine.
8
Place the choke in the vertical position - this is called
the half choke position. Pull the start cord several times. If the
engine fires up, place the choke back down to its original position and
let it slowly warm up. If the engine still has trouble starting, proceed
to the next step.
9
Pull the choke 180 degrees from its original position - this
is called the full choke. Pull the start cord until the engine sputters
a couple times.
10
Replace the choke to the original off position and continue
to pull the cord. The engine should fire up and settle into a steady
hum, ready for fun in the snow.
The pull cord is in the top cover to your engine. Remove top cover and any attachments such as oil filler tube and fuel tank. With cover off you will see the old cord or whats left of it. Remove old cord. Put tension on the spring by turning the coil assembly. Put the pull handle on one end of cord, and insert the other end of the rope into the coil assembly. Let the cord retract into the coil assembly. This should do it. GOOD LUCK>
This works best with two people. Remove cover and pull cord will be inside cover. If your handle on pull cord is attatched to a metal ring up on the handle, you will need 8 foot of new pull cord.
With all the old cord removed, wind cord pulley 6 revolunations, now, have someone hold the pulley, while you string the new cord thru pulley and out the cord hole on cover. Be sure to put a knot on the end going thru pulley. Draw cord all the way thru and out of the cover. Attatch the handle and let it rewind. You will have extra cord, this will be used up going from engine up the handle. I hope this helps
Take off the whole assembly, find and replace the spring, manuually wind up the reel until it is loaded with tension in the direction that will retract the cord. THEN put new cord in through the feedhole then the assembly, then tie a small figure eight knot at the very end of the pull cord, pull it tight so it stays in its recess and then let the cord retract by releasing the tension. - you now have a fully charged retractor assembly. put it on tightly with the three 10mm bolts, reattach the plastic cover and git mowin.
remove the engine shroud. Pull the cord all the way out. Put a screw driver into the fins so it does not unwind. Cut new cord and install through hole in shroud and the rewinder. Reattach handle to cord and hold onto rope and pull screw driver out. Slowly let cord rewind. Pull a couple of times to make sure it is working. While engine shroud is off us a piece of emery cloth or fine sandpaper to clean off the magnets on fly wheel and the two little prongs close to the fly wheel.
there should be four bolts holding the cover on that houses the pull cord assembly take the bolts out look inside you should see the rest of the broken cord at the other end there is a spool that the cord rolls up in to pull the cord until it stops the other end of the cord is a not in the cord pull on the knot the broken peice should come out turn the spool 2 times in the direction that is against the pressre while holding the spool in place feed the new cord in through the whole that you pulled the broken cord out of then tie the cord in a knot wind the rest of the cord up then feed the other end of the cord through the new pull handle tie the cord in a knot put the housing back on
