Question about Homelite Mighty Lite Lawn Trimmer

1 Answer

Homelite Mighty Lite won't run but a few seconds

I have a Homelite Mighty Lite that will start, however, it will only run a few seconds. Give it a little gas and it dies. While using it this morning, I smelled something burning. Smelled like wood, however, nothing burning around me. Would anything in the trimmer smell like something burning?

Thanks for your assistance.

Check your muffler to be sure doesn't have a build up of carbon from the oil/gas fuel. This is the problem with 99% of equipment that uses mixed gas. Take the muffler off and see if it runs better without it. If so there is carbon build up in the muffler and muffler port on the engine. Burn the muffler in an open fire for a while to remove the carbon, or burn it with a torch, toss out the screen that's is in most mufflers, (unless of course you live in California where they are required), Scrape out the port with a knife and after the muffler cools on it's own (don't cool with water as you will warp it and not get a good seal) reinstall and see if this solves the problem.

Homelite mighty lite 26bv gas Blower won't run full speed or only in Full Choke

Sounds like a lean condition. Rebuild carb, replace fuel lines and fuel filter and you should be ready to blow the leaves.

How much oil do you use? in the mighty lite

Homelite Mighty Lite engines require the gas/oil ratio to be mixed at 50:1. That is 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon or 1.3 ounces of 2 stroke oil per half gallon of gas. I recommend using synthetic oil. It lubricates much better, allows the engine to run cooler and smokes less.

Homelite Might Lite 26ss starts up but wont run for more than 20 seconds when idling and floods out when you give it throttle. i checked the fuel filter even ran it without the filter does the same thing....

I think with the symptoms that you are having, that you need to 1. Remove the carburetor 2. Inspect/Replace fuel filter and fuel lines 3.Disassemble and Clean the carburetor 4. Possibly install a new gasket and diaphragm kit or a complete rebuild kit.

Hard to start my homelite mighty lite, any clues please

Remove the air filter. Get some carburetor/choke aerosol spray at the auto parts store. Open the throttle wide open on the machine while spraying cleaner into the carb throat. A couple short bursts is all you need. Then try to start . If the engine runs till the cleaner burn off, that is a start. Do this a few more times and then try to start the machine normally. If it doesn't start, then it probably needs some type of fuel system maintenance done (filter, gas lines, carb gaskets and diaphragms, carb cleaning etc.).

After ten months without use, I start up the Homelite Mighty Lite 26cc gas model blower/vacuum. It runs on half-choke for about 30 seconds and dies or sometimes a few seconds on run and dies. The vacuum...

Well after you clean it out and get it running make sure you dump some sta-bil into the gas tank next time it is going to sit idle for over 3 months. the gas turns into a shellac which glues up the carburetor.

Homelite mighty lite wont stay running

the problem is in the carburetor most likely, it may be cleaned and adjusted, if not it will likely need a new carb

My homelite mighty lite edger starts, but will only run on either half choke or run for 10 or 15 seconds and then dies. The choke filter looks clean.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris.(Should be able to see daylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (,to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

You may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Goes dead after 2 second

Start by setting both the High and Low speed screws on the carburator to 1.5 turns out. Simply screw them both in until they are snug, and then back them out 1.5 turns. Give it a shot and see how it runs.

Please be sure to rate this solution.
