Hi,

Since the model is pretty old troubleshooting would require the reference of servicing manual . I would request you to fill in the details in the bellow link and get the service manual emailed to you so that you can understand the basic reasons for the set to not work.

Since there are several reasons for the set not to functions I would request you to get the service manual.

You need to try cleaning the lens of the player. If that doesn't correct it you might have lens damage.

Most likely a belt has stretched and will not now move the tray. This happens of units more than 2 years old usually.

My Harman Kardon FL 8550 will not play, the display shows error and the carousel seems stuck. I already cleaned the lens.

Couple possibilities.

Disc jammed inside, take cover off and inspect.

Worn belts, belts are old and worn and it can't move the carousel or open, stripped gears will also have the same effect.

Or electronic problem, not worth repairing.

Harmon Kardon unlock error

I have the same problem. All of a sudden no sound through my TV connection (but through the DVD connection the sound was still working). I changed the connection from video 1 to video 2 and got the sound back. It is not a real solution, but a practical one :-)

Well, difficult problem here, you has to open the cover to remove manually on the changer de CD, other than that, prove leaving the on botton pressed when connected, and see if open,

Harmon Speaker distortion

Hi, I came across a similar problem with an old Altec and the the solution was to only replace the defective side. Actually, what was replaced was only the speaker itself inside the enclosure which was cheaper rather than replacing the entire assembly. An electronics technician (not necessarily a computer tech) can do the job since some soldering might be involved.
