Question about Canon PowerShot A410 Digital Camera
The lens on my Canon digital camera will not close... i am unable to take a pciture and do not know the reason for this....when the camera is put on i am able to see my old pictures but when i click to take a new picture the screen is blank..i dont know what to do...please help...i have the canon power shot sd 500 camera and the problem that appears is the E18...... please help me My camera seems, fine, when I turn it to view mode, I can see all my pictures, however, when I want to take a picture it lights up, beeps, and then says E18 in the lower left hand corner. Very frustrating.
Your A410 problem really sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Canon would normally fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways.

But you may want to contact canon anyways to see if they will help.
As for your SD500 e18 issue,
The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
