Question about Breville Die Cast 800ESXL Espresso Machine
I bought a new breville. No water pumped at all, so I thought pump was defective. took it back, got new one. same problem. light comes on, top of unit heats up, but absolutely no water is being pumped. I don't hear anything going on at all. water tank is filled to proper level. produces no coffee, nor does it produce any steam. what's up??
I got through to the tech support at Breville and they helped me fix this problem. What they had me do was:
1)Fill the water tank all the way up
2)Turn the power on and wait until the heating light turns off.
3)without coffee in the head turn the machine to espresso mode and let it pump for a minute.
4)after a minute turn to standby for a couple seconds then turn it to steam mode for a minute.
5) after this minute is up turn it back to standby for a couple of seconds and then back to espresso mode.
6) the technician said to do this seven times, but mine started working after three or so. The tech said the fixes about 80 to 90 percent of machines with this problem.

I was having this problem, and decided to try to investigate where the blockage was. After removing the screen from the head, you will find a brass piece that the screen screw threads into. This piece of brass is slotted like a flathead screw. I used a screwdriver to remove this brass piece, which holds a spring and a plug. Turns out the plug was stuck, by taking it apart and putting it back together, I fixed it! Not only that, but adjusting how far the brass piece is screwed in, you can change the flow rate of water entering the portafilter! Now that I have everything working again, my espresso is better than ever!

I just had mine unplugged while i researched the situation here... I just plugged 'er back in to try this technique and it just was working from the get go! Thank goodness! ! I didn't know what tomorrow morning would hold if I had to have regular brewed coffee again... I shudder to think!

This is the way I fixed the problem. I pulled the tank out about 1-2 incihes and it started pumping. I think the problem is related to the tank tube and air being trapped to prevent flow. Mine worked right away when I tried this.

I bought this model on eBay and it was having the same issue. It is working great now. THANKS! Starting working the first time after 7 tries on steam and 4 tries on hot water, but had to cool down once before it would work again. After that it worked fine. I was a bit skeptical if this would work after 7 tries but I kept trying. It is 100% working and making great drinks now! Thanks again!!!
