When metallic parts get hot or cool down it expands and contracts accordingly making that clicking noise. If the unit is heating normally nothing have to be done. If the clicking noise comes from the fan blades or turbine then during operation they are hitting other parts and need to be repositioning or aligned. Be careful and turn the power off and wait until the unit is cool enough to work with it.
There is a 3 amp fuse in the main circuit board. If this fuse is bad ,nothing will work but because of the batteries in the thermostat it will lead you to believe that the unit is working properly, however, it is only showing you what is supposed to be. Replace the fuse and everything will work.
The T-stat is only a switch, not a heating unit. A car ignition switch only starts and stops an engine, but the engine does the work. The T-stat is unlikely the cause of the problem. Provide more information like the kind of heat (gas, oil, heat pump)and what the unit is or isn't doing.
Thank you for your interest with Emerson White Rodgers. My Name is Joselito Laxamana from technical department. - Check the wires on the terminals make sure that they are not loose - Reset the unit by press time, up and down buttons make sure the systems is in on position. - Set the system to heat then and raise the setpoint above room temperature. There may be up to five minute delay before the thermostat clicks in heating If the thermostat click this means its not a thermostat you have a problem with your heating equipment call your installer. If the thermostat did not click the unit should be replaced. Let me know if you need anything else.
To get proper heat your setting temp +5 degree than room temp. And mode should be in " Heat". And wait for 3 to 5 minutes. If still not stats, restart the unit and observe the following. If your unit is with RV, check click sound after 3 minutes. If not RV is not working properly. If it's with heating element, check for power in the element after 3minutes. If not check wiring.
Check the following if you're unit is not giving heat. 1. Keep temp setting +8 degree from your room temp 2. Keep mode in "Heat". And check the click sound in RV when you turn to heat mode. If one failed out of three your unit will not supply heat.
Depending on make and model sounds like a check valve clicking. It can sound like it is coming from that area. You say your unit is 16 years old. Honeywell did servey on unit 10 years and older and found out they loose 25% effeicency after 10 years. You may think about changing it out. With the new tax credits you can get a 16 seer unit for the price of a 13 seer. I went from a 10 to 15 seer and my power bill dropped 40%. Rus.
Sounds like the compressor starting relay or capacitor is defective. When the compressor could not start, the electric heat came on to satisfy the heat requirement and causing the emergency heat light to come on at the thermostat. This light warns you that electric heaters are energized. And they use a LOT of electricity! Call a different company for service. And do it soon.
My heating unit is blowing cool air. The thermostat will start the blower when the unit is turned on at the thermostat, but the air isn't hot. But,when I turn the unit on at the furnace/blower using the "Fan On" button, I can see the heating element heat up. After the blower starts the heating element does out. What could be the problem?
